Liverpool Title Odds: 2/1 odds taken 1402 GMT, Friday 3 June

Liverpool once again pushed Manchester City all the way in the title race in the 2021-22 Premier League season. The Reds took it to the final day, eventually missing out in dramatic fashion by just one point. Man City are the bookies’ favourites, but Liverpool will no doubt be there or thereabouts in the championship battle this term.

The other big boys will strengthen this summer as they look to mount a challenge, especially Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United. Having said that, Liverpool and Man City have the potential to dominate for years to come.

In our in-depth 2022-23 Liverpool Premier League betting preview, we take a look at their title credentials, potential signings, players to watch out for and much, much more.

2021-22 Review: Reds miss out by a point

The 2021-22 Premier League season was another memorable campaign. For the first time ever, the title race, places in the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, UEFA Conference League and the battle for survival were all to be decided on the final day.

Although Liverpool were never top on the last weekend, they were in a tremendous position to win their second Premier League title, as Man City were 2-0 down at home to Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa with just 14 minutes to go. At the time, Liverpool were level with Wolverhampton Wanderers. Jurgen Klopp’s men went on to win 3-1, but City scored three late goals to beat Villa 3-2 and steal the title away.

Our betting prediction:

Liverpool were outstanding in the domestic cup competitions. In February, they edged past Chelsea on penalties to win the Carabao Cup. They then beat the Blues on spot kicks at Wembley Stadium in the 2022 FA Cup final in May. The Reds also reached the Champions League final, losing out to record winners Real Madrid in France.

At one point in the season, the quadruple was well and truly on. Liverpool had to settle for two trophies and two runners-up medals in the end, but Klopp had another remarkable year at Anfield. The Merseyside giants will no doubt be a force to be reckoned with on all fronts in the 2022-23 season.

Our betting prediction:
Brentford top ten finish
4/1

Liverpool Transfer News: Will any big stars arrive at Anfield?

Liverpool did their best bit of business back in January when they landed Luis Diaz. Reports suggest that Klopp is happy with his squad, though that will ultimately depend on whether he can keep his star players at Anfield for the foreseeable future.

The Reds have been linked with Chelsea’s Mason Mount, who is seemingly getting better and better with age. However, the Merseysiders could go head-to-head with Man City for the England international’s signature should he opt to leave Stamford Bridge.

Who Are the Reds’ Biggest Challengers: Will City retain?

Man City and Liverpool were the top dogs in England once again last season, with the pair racking up a staggering 185 points between them. Liverpool finished on 92 points, a whopping 18 above third-place Chelsea. The Reds and Citizens will no doubt be right up there again this term, but will we see a new challenger emerge?

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues could be back in the hunt after their takeover. Tottenham might be a force with the excellent Antonio Conte in the dugout in what will be his first full season at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Also, Arsenal have improved under Mikel Arteta – could the Gunners be dark horses in the title race?

Manchester City Preview: Can the Citizens make it three on the spin?

Man City were outdone by Liverpool in the domestic cup competitions and were knocked out by Real Madrid in the last four of the Champions League, but Pep Guardiola’s City had an incredible Premier League season. They won 29 of their 38 league matches, drawing six and losing three of the other nine. The Manchester giants finished on 93 points to pip Liverpool to the trophy once again.

With the capture of the exciting Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund, Guardiola’s boys will be even stronger this season, which is an ominous sign for their title rivals. Man City will certainly be the team to beat in this term’s Premier League.

Manchester United Preview: Can Ten Hag hit the ground running?

Ever since Sir Alex Ferguson departed, Man United have been going through a transitional period. However, it is taking the record English champions far too long to get things right. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was sacked midway through the 2021-22 campaign, with interim boss Ralf Rangnick doing a decent job while the board sorted out the Norwegian’s permanent replacement.

United have been well off the pace in recent years, as they have stood back and watched rivals Man City and Liverpool dominate England’s top division. It is likely to take Ten Hag time to settle into his new surroundings, but the Red Devils could be a team to watch out for if things click early doors. The bookies have them priced at 25/1.

Chelsea Preview: Blues to bounce back with new owners at the helm?

Chelsea’s £4b takeover has been completed, with long-serving Roman Abramovich finally departing Stamford Bridge. The Blues can now focus on matters on the pitch after a tough second half to the 2021-22 season.

Despite their well-documented problems, Tuchel’s Chelsea still managed to have a successful season. They won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup and reached the finals of both the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, losing on penalties to Liverpool in each. They ended the season in third position, booking their spot in the 2022-23 Champions League. With the right recruitment in place, Chelsea could be a force this season. The Blues are priced at 16/1 to win the league.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview: How will Spurs do under Conte?

In Conte, Tottenham have one of the best managers in world football. The Italian guided Spurs to a top-four finish against all odds last term, with the north Londoners pipping rivals Arsenal to the final Champions League place by two points. Conte described the achievement as one of the best of his career.

You never really know what you are going to get with this current crop of Tottenham players. However, with Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son up top, the Lilywhites have one of the best strike forces in the Premier League. Conte is more than capable of attracting the world’s best players to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and the Lilywhites could challenge this season. They are currently the fourth favourites at 20/1.

Arsenal Preview: Can the Gunners cause an upset?

After years away from the Champions League, getting back into the top four will be Arsenal’s priority this season. The Gunners missed out in agonising fashion last term, suffering two defeats in their last three, which saw rivals Tottenham snatch fourth place away on the final day.

Arsenal are definitely building something good under Arteta, but winning the Premier League title seems way off right now. Nevertheless, if you fancy a flutter on the Gunners, 50/1 is your best price at the time of writing.

Liverpool Players to Watch Out For in the 2022-23 Season: Diaz to keep on improving

Liverpool have one of the best squads in the world. There are so many stars within their ranks, but who will be the player to watch out for this season? We will be keeping a close eye on Diaz, who hit the ground running at Anfield after joining from Porto in a big-money deal in January. Diaz settled in instantly and become a real hit with the Liverpool supporters.

Mohamed Salah picked up another Premier League Golden Boot last term, sharing the award with Tottenham’s Son. The Egyptian made a stunning start, but the goals did dry up in the latter months.

Sadio Mane also had another sensational season and will be worth watching again this year if the Senegal striker stays in Merseyside. Mane has 12 months left on his current contract and has been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich.

Our Liverpool Predictions: Guardiola’s men to edge out Klopp’s Reds again

Of course, Man City are the bookies’ favourites to retain their Premier League crown and make it three titles in a row, but Klopp’s men will not let the champions have it all their own way this season. The Reds have had a remarkable 2022 so far, and they will be looking for a fast start to their 2022-23 campaign.

Having said that, Man City will be the team to beat, and our money is going on Guardiola’s troops. Still, Liverpool will no doubt be in the title hunt, and we fancy them to finish runners-up once again.
