Kind Review to leave a pleasing mark?
So it is KIND REVIEW who is the current 10/3 favourite for this trip* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:14 GMT on Sunday, 28th June 2020).
He will be lining up a hattrick as well, so there are no issues with his current form.
It has been two wins from three efforts in 2020 from the gelding, with the latest of those successes happening at 8f at Leicester just over two weeks ago.
He looked really sharp and settled in that one and there looks to be enough to expect more from him.
He brings some serious claims to this one and it is really hard to ignore his presence.
KODIAC HARBOUR
One that is worth keeping on side is KODIAC HARBOUR, a lightly raced 5 year old. He had a trip in mid-June in a 8f contest at Newbury and put in a decent shift there to claim fourth of twelve.
That was from a 22/1 mark. It was a good sharpener ahead of this one and he should come in fit. He scored a couple of times last year and that recent run seems to be hinting that he is back on track.
Kodiac Harbour is at the too of the weights but one to take second considerations on from 11/2* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:14 GMT on Sunday, 28th June 2020).
CITY WANDERER
Currently sat at 9/2 is CITY WANDERER* (betting odds taken from Ladbrokes at 21:14 GMT on Sunday, 28th June 2020). He just made his reappearance almost a month ago when he was third form last in a field of 10 at Yarmouth.
That’s probably not enough for punters to overlook him however. He was really heading in the right direction at the end of the last campaign, scoring three times in his final four runs of the season.
That trip at Yarmouth will have done wonders for him to get some air into his lungs and the son of Kodiak poses a threat if he’s stripping fitter.
BOSTON GEORGE
Dropping a few pounds from his last effort is BOSTON GEORGE which could help get him back on track. His season opener happened just over two weeks ago at Doncaster.
He wasn’t even in the picture there claiming 7th of 11.
Boston George hasn’t managed to score on turf before, but that recent run may at least raise him to place claims as the field isn’t that deep for this Thirsk race.
DEFENCE TREATY
Not to discount out of contention is DEFENCE TREATY who could offer something for punters. It’s been solid enough stuff since his reappearance, taking a third and a fifth place finish.
He does look as if he needs to find an extra gear and he was clearly not at his best when taking 5th at Pontefract over a longer 10f trip just under three weeks ago. Back on his game, he could challenge.
Other to note
MONAADHIL had a poor reparprance almost finishing at the back of the back at Pontefract. He is with a new yard for this contest which could shake him up a bit. That last run was two weeks ago so it should be fitter.
TRINITY LAKE is an interesting inclusion. This will be his reappearance having been away from 268 days. When he came back fresh from a break last spring he delivered a win. Can he pull the same thing off?
Will wind surgery have done wonders for IRV? He really dropped away at the end of the last campaign after looking pretty sharp and showing plenty of form. This will be his first effort since the surgery.
Predictions & Tips
We have a really good, wide open competitive field here as far as we can see. It should be a good handicap contest.
But who takes it? We have to swing towards CITY WANDERER who has to be much better for having had his reappearance run under his belt.
He wasn’t in form in it, but the form that he pounded out at the end of last season can’t be ignored.
We also like the look of DEFENCE TREATY who looks capable of putting something together in this kind of company.
Of course we do also have to size up KIND REVIEW who is the pick of the bunch and the one to beat. But he’s going to have to work hard to secure that hattrick bid.
