Royale Pagaille the one to beat in the Peter Marsh Handicap Chase

The current 9/4 market leader is ROYALE PAGAILLE* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He is sitting on a hat-trick for trainer Vanessa Williams after having come on leaps and bounds this season. He scored at Haydock first and then followed up with a brilliant effort at Kempton.

That latest run for Royale Pagaile was in December. He delivered the odds by a three and a half a length margin over Cap Du Nord. Royale Pagaille is giving weight to the field but looks as if he is going to be hard to stop at this distance.

There is a big 16lb rise following on from his handicap debut last time out. But will that massive rise be enough to hold him back?

He’s pegged for the Cheltenham Gold Cup this year and this could be a huge step towards that.

Can Sam Brown find enough to topple the favourite?

This is a cracking chase fixture to look forward to. SAM BROWN has been trading well and is at 10/3 in the market* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

On his return to action, he scored a third place finish in a listed effort at Carlisle back in November. That was a chase effort, beaten by Imperial Aura by three lengths.

Sam Brown lines up as a 10/3 option in the market for Peter Marsh Handicap chase betting * (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Sam Brown won his first two chase efforts impressively and one of those was at Grade 2 here last year. He gets the tongue tie for the first time and looks a big threat.

Sam’s Adventure to get into the picture?

SAM’s ADVENTURE will be looking to complete a double as he steps into action on the weekend. That was a good return to form in December for him and it was a victory taken at course and distance.

So that piques a little bit of interest here as he crushed Sojourn by four lengths on the run. It was a big return to form for Sam’s Adventure too.

His first two efforts of the campaign had been quite flat, so it will be fascinating to see if he has enough to get in the picture on his return to C&D.

Sam’s Adventure is 13/2 option* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Conditions to help Smooth Stepper’s challenge

It has been back to back fifth-place finishes for SMOOTH STEPPER who is a 12/1 quote in this fixture* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

Back in February last year Smooth Stepper won the Grand National Trial at around this distance. While he hasn’t hit the best of his form so far this season, a return to Haydock could be suitable.

Under these conditions, there may be enough to see him bring some place claims to the table, and makes for an interesting player.

The rest of the runners

CRIEVEHILL hasn’t been in top form yet this season. Last season started very well for him as he collected a victory at Wetherby and here over C&D. But there have been some big struggles for him this season, but returns to his last winning mark.

LAMANAVER PIPPIN scored a novice event at Chepstow last season. On his reappearance this season he went very well to take third at CHetla. His follow up effort was very poor though and is 1lb outside of the weights.

ACEY MILAN is another who is 1lb out of the weights. His reappearance run went well for the season as he scored in an Aintree novice handicap chase. But then his two follow up races have been well below par.

POTTERS LEGEND is 2lb out of the weights. He is a former course and distance winner who has shaped well a couple of times this season, kindling scoring at Warwick and in taking a second-place finish in a Grade 3 at Cheltenham. Potters Legend may have place claims here.

JUST YOUR TYPE is 4lb out of the weights. On his penultimate trip, he just managed to pull out a win at Uttoxeter in November. But then he failed to complete his follow up run at Kelso and inconsistency still plagues him.

CLAUD AND GOLDIE was fourth over course and distance in November. That followed up a second-place at Kelso on his reappearance run. But this is a big step up in terms of difficulty for him and he goes from 4lb out of the weights.

Predictions & Tips for Peter Marsh Handicap Chase Odds

ROYALE PAGAILLE is going to take some stopping in this fixture and has to be supported at 9/4* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He has powered his way through his last two races and even the 16lb rise that he has to deal with doesn’t look likely to slow him up enough. Royalle Pagaille is fancied to defy that.

The biggest threat to the favourite really should be SAM BROWN as he looks to be on a fair opening mark here. The tongue tie is on and after that listed effort at Carlisle, there should be more to build on. So Sam Brown definitely has a chance at the

For some extended value we are looking at POTTERS LEGEND as an each way option from 12/1* (betting odds recorded 17:57 GMT on January 22nd, 2021 at Ladbrokes).

He has put together some very good efforts this season and while he is coming out of the weights, there is previous course and distance from there.
