Aberdeen are under pressure in this tie. They have to come up with a rescue mission. They are trailing 2-0 from the first leg and on the weekend they had another blow to their confidence with a 1-0 Scottish Premier defeat at St Mirren. So that adds up to back to back away defeats for Abreden in which they have failed to score. But at least they do have home advantage for this fixture and their home form does offer some kind of positive. This season they have played three and won three at Pittodrie.

Aberdeen have scored 10 goals in those three home fixtures too. They have not though, taken a clean sheet at Pittodrie so far this season. They kicked off their Europa League campaign in the first round with a 4-2 aggregate success of RoPS. They then thrashed Chikhura 6-1 on aggregate before this clash with Rijeka. The first leg of this looked like it was just going to be one of those difficult away nights. It proved to be. Aberdeen are unbeaten in their last nine Europa League home games, posting a W5 D4 record in that sequence. Another positive out of that is that they scored at least two goals in each of the five wins in that sequence.

So it is advantage Rijeka in this match. The question is, can they dig out the result which they need at Pittodrie to close the tie? Unlike Aberdeen who started in the first round of the qualifiers, Rijeka came in at this third qualifying round. They have a bit of European form going as they have suffered just the one loss in their last five Europa League fixtures (W2 D2). Their away form isn’t bad and it suggests that they could make life very difficult for the Dons.

Rijeka are W1 D4 L1 in their last six away Europa League games. They are undefeated in their last three games away from home in the competition but haven’t taken a clean sheet in four. So the latter stat there will offer the Dons some hope. This season Rijeka have played six games in all competitions and have taken a W4 L2 record from that. The two defeats which they have suffered this season were both away from home.
