The 90th edition of the Academy Awards will be doling out the statues this weekend on March 4th. In total there are 24 categories, each with an Oscar to be handed out. For the first time since Billy Crystal hosted back to back events in 1997 and 1998, Jimmy Kimmel returns as the host this year after having stepped up to the plate last year too. The final polls for voting on nominations was on February 2017 and now it’s just a matter of wait and see as to who gets those famous statues. The most nominated movie for this year’s awards is the Shape of Water with thirteen nominations.

Here we take a preview of the main categories coming up in Academy Awards Betting 2018 Oscars winner odds at bet365, and we have just listed selected odds in those categories. All odds listed on the page were taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.

Best Picture

Call Me by Your Name
Darkest Hour
Dunkirk 40/1
Get Out 181
Lady Bird 11/1
Phantom Thread
The Post
The Shape of Water 11/8
Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 8/11* (betting odds taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.)

Three Billboards landed the punch in the Golden Globes earlier this year and it has been heavily touted to do the double and get the Oscar too this year. It has also won the SAG ensemble win this year and it’s been a long time since the Best Picture Oscar winner hadn’t won that prior. Throw in the BAFTA as well and it’s the one to beat. The Shape of Water is a stunning film though and as we saw last year with Moonlight beating La La Land, the voting process could get it in the frame against teeth favourite. If there is an upset then that would be the reason why. Still, it’s hard to see it happening.

Best Director

Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water 1/12
Jordan Peele, Get Out
Christopher Nolan, Dunkirk 7/1
Greta Gerwig, Lady Bird 14/1* (betting odds taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.)
Paul Thomas Anderson, Phantom Thread

Probably a bit more of a foregone conclusion than for the Best Picture. Look for Guillermo del Toro to sweep up the award. He is the heavy odds-on favourite after getting the Golden Globe and the sheer brilliance of creativity that the man has makes him fully deserve this for everything that went into The Shape of Water. No-one is going to topple him.

Best Actor

Timothée Chalamet, Call Me by Your Name 16/1
Daniel Day-Lewis, Phantom Thread
Daniel Kaluuya, Get Out 16/1
Gary Oldman, Darkest Hour 1/33
Denzel Washington, Roman J. Israel, Esq.

Some heavy hitters on the block in this one and Daniel Kaluuya’s performance in Get Out checks all the right boxes to deserve an Oscar. However, he probably won’t get it because the award will probably go to Gary Oldman for his stunning portrayal of Winston Churchill in the Darkest Hour. The way that he holds the screen in the movie as the famous Prime Minister gives him every chance of getting his first Oscar.

Best Actress

Sally Hawkins, The Shape of Water 16/1
Frances McDormand, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 1/25
Margot Robbie, I, Tonya
Saoirse Ronan, Lady Bird 12/1* (betting odds taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.)
Meryl Streep, The Post

We would stick with form in this one and roll with Frances McDormand. She has the Golden Globe, the SAGA, the BAFTA and the Critics’ Choice Award for her role in Three Billboards. The winner of the Best Actress has been the one who took the SAG award prior, 17 times in the last 23 editions of the Oscars. That’s a tremendous Oscars betting trend to just roll with. The one that is likely going to push her the costs if there is such a thing would be 23 year old Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird. There have been back to back twenty-somethings winning in this category.

Best Supporting Actor

Willem Dafoe, The Florida Project 11/2
Woody Harrelson, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri
Richard Jenkins, The Shape of Water
Christopher Plummer, All the Money in the World
Sam Rockwell, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri 1/8* (betting odds taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.)

If you would have asked a lot of people before the awards season kicked off this year who would get the nod as the Best Supporting Actor, Willem Dafoe would have had his name come up time and time again. However, the movie The Florida Project really hasn’t come to the fore which will knock back his chances. So the hint is that it will be Sam Rockwell who gets it because it has been a procession of an award after award in this category for him at other ceremonies.

Best Supporting Actress

Mary J. Blige, Mudbound
Allison Janney, I, Tonya 1/7* (betting odds taken at 11:49 p.m. on 27th February 2018.)
Lesley Manville, Phantom Thread
Laurie Metcalf, Lady Bird 5/1
Octavia Spencer, The Shape of Water

If you simply stick with where the awards have gone to from the other ceremonies from awards shows that have come up this season, then the Oscars is going to get all a little bit predictable. In this best Supporting Actress, Allison Janney has been doing the rounds as the celebrated winner so far. However, there does have to be an upset somewhere down the line so there may be a little value on Laurie Metcalf coming through because Lady Bird has had received more nominations than I, Tonya, notably in the Best Picture category.
