Can Lewis step up his game?

Former two-time World Champion Adrian Lewis had a tough battle on his hands in the second round. That was his first match in the competition. Lewis was up against Spain’s Cristo Reyes and was taken to a long 5-set fixture. Lewis barely got above 90 in his three dart average and is going to need to step up big time. Jackpot’s titles at the tournament happened back in 2011 and 2012, however, he hasn’t been past the fourth round in his last three efforts.

Head to head

There have been seven previous meetings between these two and each of the last four have been in Players Championship events. The most recent of those was in Barnsley last year and in that Barnsley duel, Lewis lost for the first time in his career against Webster.

Can Webster take out the higher seed?

Darren Webster started his campaign in the second round as well. That was courtesy of being one of the top 32 seeds. He opened against Japan’s Yuki Yamada and the Englishman came through the test unflustered and unscathed. Webster picked up a 3-0 victory. He posted a three-dart average of a tiny shade over 91 in that match. So it looks as if this is going to be a tight fight with Lewis. “Demolition Man” has had a chequered history at the PDC Darts World Championship, as his best efforts were quarter finals in 2007 and 2018. In between, there has not been progress past the third round, and that includes five years of not even qualifying for the event.

Adrian Lewis v Darren Webster Prediction and tip

Lewis looked a little edgy in his first match and was pushed harder than expected. He fought his way through, however, but he is likely to be challenged again in this one. Nothing wrong with a flutter on the underdog here at 11/8* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 21st, 2019 at 2:34 pm)
