The pinnacle of the Aintree Festival is Grand National betting, with the famous race coming up on Saturday, April 9th.

It is one of the biggest days of National Hunt horse racing in the UK.

The Grand National race is the big headlining act of the meeting, but it is only a small part of the Aintree Festival.

The Aintree Grand National Festival is hosted across three days and it’s a fantastic meeting stacked with racecards from the top Grade 1 tier.

It’s another big National hunt meeting, following on from last weekend’s Scottish Grand National at the Ayr Festival.

Day 1 of the Aintree Grand National Festival – Thursday, April 7th

There are a total of four Grade 1 fixtures coming up on the opening day of the Aintree Grand National Festival 2022. It is a big day of horse racing betting.

4:40 Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase (Grade 3) 2m
5:15 Goffs UK Nickel Coin Mares’ Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race (Grade 2) 2m1f

One of the big two races of the day is the Betway Bowl Chase which features a cracking line-up for this year’s renewal.

The likes of Protektorat, Clan Des Obeaux, Eldorado Allen, Royale Pagaille and Fakir D’oudairies to name but a few, hold entries.

For the Aintree Hurdle, there is expected to be a headline showdown between Nicky Henderson’s Epatante and Gordon Elliott’s Zanahiyr.

Those two look to be the pick of a very good bunch taking on the challenge.

The Marsh Chase (The Melling Chase) is the highlight of the day and one of the big fixtures of the National Hunt season.

This is the race in which JP O’Brien’s Fakir D’oudairies is expected to declare for and potentially dominate.

Other runners near the head of the market for this year’s renewal of the Marsh Chase include Funambule Sivola, Sceau Royal and Saint Calvados in what is shaping up to be a fascinating field.
