Ajax News and Form

Ajax finished second in the group stage, failing to get the better of Bayern Munich in the race. However, Ajax did draw both of their games against Bayern. This is the first time since 2006 that Ajax are in the round of sixteen and they lost that one, so are looking for their first success at this stage. Real Madrid may just about have been the worst draw they could have gotten as Ajax are on a six-match losing streak currently against the Spaniards. In those six games, Ajax have conceded 20 goals, scoring only two.

Their only previous appearance at this stage was in the 2005/06 season against Inter. The Dutch outfit haven’t managed to win any of their last six games in the knockout stage (D2 L4). They are winless in five at home in knockout matches as well. The last time they won a home game in the knockouts was against Dortmund back in the 1995/96 season. Ajax have won only two of their last fourteen games against Spanish opposition (D1 L11). Their record in two-legged ties against Spanish sides though is a positive W7 D2. Ajax are undefeated in 2018/19 European games (W7 D5).
