Lowry has appeal for Links pro-am

Golf Betting

This is the last event on the European Tour for the year as the popular pro-am tees off. This is a hugely popular tournament which is once again played across three venues. There is the Old Course at St Andrews, Carnoustie and Kingsbarns and it is a fascinating spectacle. A pro player is paired up with an amateur partner, and they play one round of each course over the first three days of the tournament and then the top sixty players after all that go off again on Sunday back at St Andrew’s.

There will be a different test over the different courses and the star attraction at the tournament is Rory McIlroy which is a huge attraction and coup for the event. He is the 6/1 outright favourite at Boylesports to win the tournament and not only is he the only player going into the tournament in single figures, at 5/1 he is the only one that is shorter than 20/1. He will probably want to go out with some kind of splash here as this is his final tournament of the year according to him.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championship 2017 Golf Winner Odds

Rory McIlroy 5/1, Shane Lowry 20/1, Tyrrell Hatton 20/1, Tommy Fleetwood 20/1, Branden Grace 20/1, Matthew Fitzpatrick 22/1, Paul Dunne 28/1, Chris Wood 28/1, Lee Westwood 28/1, Thorbjorn Olesen 40/1, Martin Kaymer 40/1, Lucas Bjerregaard 40/1, bar 45/1

McIlroy put in a good shift at the British Masters to finish second as he was just held off byPaul Dunne. That was the best performance in a while that we have seen from McIlroy whose year has been troubled greatly by injury. That’s why he has planned to finish the season early to get himself fit and strong for next year. However, at such a short price and with him taking on Carnoustie, the tightest of the course and with bad weather expected on the opening day, he is well worth swerving. The Northern Ireland star does have three top two finishes in his last three attempts at the tournament.

The tournament is so hard to predict and that makes it fun as there have been huge priced winners recently, as many as there has been favourites coming through the field. Shane Lowry is trading at 20/1 with Boylesports and much better value therefore in the outright market. He has performed well in the tournament before and he has come home inside the top-twenty in each of his last four trips to the Pro-Am so that’s firm consistency. Last week he booked himself a top ten finish at the British Masters and so is carrying current form too.

Tommy Fleetwood at 20/1 as well is also running with some appeal. He has some strong form at the Alfred Dunhill too with three top five and five top fifteen finishes in his last six visits there. Tyrrell Hatton goes back as the reigning champion after coming from nowhere last season to claim the title. Richard Sterne is an appealing 55/1 each way punt at Boylesports because he has two top ten finishes in his last two attempts at the tournament, which includes his second-place finish last season.

Looking for even bigger value? Joakim Lagergren has finished fourth in each of the last two tournaments and at 90/1 is worth a little flutter on the back of that. Martin Kaymer has a bit of a record at the Alfred Dunhill after a sixth place finish last season. He was a winner of the tournament back in 2010 after finishing second the previous year and that could have been better but he did have a slow start. Thorbjorn Olesen has a first and a second place in his last five runs at the tournament as well and at 40/1 is appealing.

Predictions

It is worth skipping over Mcilroy on the toughest course and with the weather not being on his side for his opening round. His form last week was in good weather conditions and he may not get that this week. Lowry is stacks of value as he should go in as one of the best players in form at the moment and with a good run of form at the Alfred Dunhill too, while Tommy Fleetwood has enough to pull himself into contention at the tournament.
