Arteta the first to go in Premier League Sack Race betting?

Poor starts sees the odds on Arteta becoming the first EPL boss to get sacked this season, slashed

The start to the new Premier League season didn’t go well for Arsenal, and boss Mikel Arteta has seen his odds slashed in Premier League sack race betting.

The Gunners slipped to a defeat at the newly promoted Brentford on the opening night of the new season.

Arteta is now the new favourite to be the first Premier League manager to get the sack this term.

Arteta slashed to Evens in Premier League Sack Race Betting

During the pre-season, Arteta could have been taken at 12/1 in the Next Premier League Manager To Go market.

Now he is the even-money favourite after just one game* (odds recorded at 18:58 GMT on August 18th, 2021 at Betfair).

That game saw the Gunners outworked and outplayed at Griffin Park by the newly promoted Brentford.

The result has piled a heap of pressure on Arteta.

In last season’s Premier League Arsenal finished 7th. That meant no European action for them this term.

So there is only focus on the domestic front and there seems to be little margin for error.

But is Arteta the man to turn the Gunners back into a Top Four contender?

Punters are suggesting that he may not be around long enough for that to happen.

A defeat against Chelsea on the weekend in a big London derby wouldn’t help his cause.

Is Patrick Vieira an early contender?

On his Premier League debut as Crystal Palace manager, Patrick Vieira is at 9/1 currently in Premier League Sack Race betting* (odds recorded at 18:58 GMT on August 18th, 2021 at Betfair).

That may seem a little harsh on the former French international.

It was a 3-0 away defeat at expected Premier League title-contenders Chelsea that Palace suffered.

Vieira is obviously going to be given more time.

But the fixture list, which sees Palace face Chelsea, West Ham, Spurs and Liverpool in their first five games of the season (along with hosting Brentford) doesn’t make life easy for the Palace boss early on.

Ralph Hassenhuttl

Southampton’s Ralph Hassenhuttl is into 7/1 in the football betting market* (odds recorded at 18:58 GMT on August 18th, 2021 at Betfair).

The Saints kicked off the season with a 3-1 loss at Everton. Southampton finished sixth from bottom last season.

That was hugely disappointing for them as they had done brilliantly over the first half of the season.

But their record since the turn of the year was a shocking W5 D2 L14.

The hangover from that huge drop in form, is clearly a factor in his Premier League Sack Race odds.

There’s a tough run of fixtures ahead too, with Man Utd, West Ham, Man City and Chelsea coming up in their next six league fixtures.

Other names in the mix

Steve Bruce had a good second half of the previous campaign with Newcastle. He silenced some of his critics at least.

But a poor start to the new season will see the Magpies boss under pressure. Newcastle lost their opener 4-2 at home against West Ham.

Bruce is currently at 12/1 in the EPL Sack Race odds* (odds recorded at 18:58 GMT on August 18th, 2021 at Betfair).

That’s the same price as Watford’s Xisco Munoz who faces a tough challenge with the newly-promoted Hornets.

Watford did get off the mark at the first time of asking, however. They earned a 3-2 home success over Aston Villa. They did come under late pressure having been 3-0 up mid-way through the second half.

The Hornets have a decent chance of getting some early points on the board with a somewhat favourable run of fixtures. They don’t meet one of last season’s top six sides until the middle of October (Liverpool).
