Eden takes the step into handicaps

Eden Du Houx has been lightly raced and should have more to offer now tackling handicap company.
However, the David Pipe inmate may have been harshly assessed for winning a Chepstow novice event by a short-head when he was receiving 6lb from the runner-up. He is only a best 5/1.

The Con Man fooling no-one

The Con Man has improved with every run and won in a hack canter last time at Kelso for Donald McCain.
On that evidence, he should be able to shrug off a 7lb rise in the ratings and he will relish underfoot conditions. The general 11/2 could be generous.

Can Jolly jump to it again at his favourite track?

Jolly’s Cracked It loves Ascot but all of his victories have been over 2m.
He’s not getting any younger and is 12/1 with Bet365.
Harry Fry also run Air Horse One (14/1 with Bet365), who is a course and distance winner in decent form.

Malaya starting to look nicely treated

Malaya is interesting as she slips further down the weights.
Paul Nicholls’ mare has a touch of class and she is best on right-handed tracks when there is plenty of give in the ground. She can be backed at 11/1 but has a couple of tries over longer trips without pulling up any trees.

Dorking Boy can be forgiven latest run

Dorking Boy may not have stayed 3m1f at Huntingdon last time having won his two previous starts.
Hes has form over the course and distance and is entitled to respect at around 8/1.

Myplaceatmidnight doesn’t look an attractive date

Myplaceatmidnight has been threatening to get his head back in front this season but the handicapper has taken a dim view of his efforts.
Raised 2lb since his latest second at Taunton, it will take all of Jonjo O’Neill Jr’s magic to get him into the winner’s enclosure at 16/1 with Ladbrokes.

Best of The Rest

Prudhomme (available at 10/1) probably needed last month’s run at Taunton and the four-year-old Nordano (a best 9/1) is a tough sort so they could be the pick of the others.

Sandown 16.00 Predictions

Malaya’s stamina is a little suspect but she has the class to be competitive in a race like the Give The Gift of Ascot Annual Membership Handicap Hurdle.
Harry Fry’s pair Jolly’s Cracked It and Air Horse One also have form around Ascot on soft going and there may yet to be more to come from Dorking Boy.
But THE CON MAN made such a favourable impression on his latest start that he should take all the beating with champion-elect Brian Hughes having travelled south to keep the partnership intact.
