What a showdown we have here as TRUESHAN battles the great STRADIVARIUS for top honours in the opening race of Ascot Champions Day horse racing.

If the ground continues to dry up then Trueshan’s chances will start to drift. But Alan King’s charge collected the win in this fixture 12 months ago in impressive style.

With a victory over Stradivarius at Longchamps two weeks ago, makes him the one to beat as he had way too much in the tank for that rival.

STRADIVARIUS can never be written off, but the manner of defeat for the great one against Trueshan in the Prix du Cadran hinted that he may be getting past his peak.

It’s been a long reign in the staying division for him, but the 7-year-old, despite winning three of five runs this season, looks more vulnerable than ever.

The other big player in this one is likely to be HAMISH for Willie Haggas. He landed an impressive win at Kempton in the September Stakes 42 days ago.

That was after an absence of 15 months and with form from that race franked, Hamish could shine on Saturday.

He’s been targeted for this one and the conditions are in his favour and the move to 2m could unlock even more.

We look at a cracking sprint next for Saturday’s Ascot horse racing. DRAGON SYMBOL warrants some respect with some consistent form behind him.

He has been highly tried in strong company and was fourth in the Flying Five at the Curragh on his latest run a month ago.

ROHAAN is likely going to be a big player in this one as he thrives over course and distance. He landed at Wokingham here in style earlier this season.

That’s two wins from two course and distance efforts, so Rohaan isn’t to be written off here.

There have been excuses in his last two runs, but back at Ascot he should be a player and is boosted by Ryan Moore.

ART POWER is a classy sort and eased to a success at the Curragh three weeks ago. The rest of that Group 3 field never had a chance.

There have been a couple of efforts from Art Power at Ascot and both have seen him go well in defeat. Art Power will have been targeted for this one.

BRANDO is the final one for the shortlist in this big field. A recent fourth in the Prix Maurice de Gheest suggests the 9-year-old still has life in him.

Some of those he will line up against on Saturday were behind Brando in that run.

He found only GLEN SHIEL too good for him in this twelve months ago as well (by a nose). So the veteran has no forlorn hope.

SNOWFALL is likely to be one of the most well-supported runners on Saturday for Ascot Champions Day horse racing betting.

She completed a four-timer in the summer when she picked up the Yorkshire Oaks, adding to the English and Irish Oaks.

Since that score at York, she hasn’t quite been on top of her game. She was 6th in the Arc on her latest effort, which was a grind for her.

As long as the Arc didn’t take too much out of her, Snowfall should be heavily involved in returning against her own sex.

ESHAADA was runner up over course and distance in the Ribblesdale back in the Summer. That was some huge progress for her.

On her fourth racetrack appearance, she ran just about as poorly as she possibly could have in the Yorkshire Stakes. But it’s way too early to write of Eshaada.

LADY HAYES can’t be written off either. Roger Varian’s filly has the potential to get involved.

She returns refreshed after a couple of months which could help, as she struggled for form on her latest. The move up in distance should help her on the weekend.

So the other main nod for the shortlist is ALBAFLORA who is a likeable filly. She smashed a course and distance field in a Listed contest on her return.

She looked to be right back on her game when she was second to Snowfall in the Yorkshire Oaks in August.

What a cracker of a fixture this is going to be. It’s an absolute treat to see a clutch of the best 1 milers around square off here.

PALACE PIER is a five-time Group 1 winner and commands big respect. He was beaten in this one last year when he lost a shoe.

That was the only defeat in his career of ten races. Since then Palace Pier has put together a four-timer, completed in the Prix Jacques le Marois two months ago.

The impressive BAAEED is going to be a huge challenger to Palace Pier. There has been nothing but positives from him since making his debut in the summer.

It has been five wins from five from Baaeed who has shot up the ranks.

There has been a Group 3 win at Goodwood for him and he scored in the Prix de Moulin on his latest to complete the five-timer.

He receives 3lb from Palace Pier and that could help in what is a big step up in quality of opposition for Baaeed. But that having been said he looks something special.

BENBATL has gone well this season and picked up a win in the Joel Stakes on his latest. The 7-year-old had kicked off the season with a runner up spot in the Celebration Mile. So he has claims.

The final for the shortlist is going to be Charlie Appleby’s MASTER OF THE SEAS. The Craven Stakes winner almost got the 2000 Guineas under his belt this season too.

A third place in the Joel Stakes was a little disappointing but Master Of The Seas is not to be written off.

This is a competitive Group 1 contest to round off our look at Ascot Champions Day horse racing betting on Saturday.

The well-travelled MISHRIFF is expected to be in the thick of this one.

There was a third career Group 1 win for him last time out, landing the Juddmonte two months ago.

He will be looking for some revenge over ADAYAR who had the better of him in the King George. Adayar is expected to be there.

He missed out on a hattrick with a four in the Arc two weeks ago. That was a respectable run. Victories in the Derby and the King George puts this high-class colt in the hunt for the win.

ADDEYBB is not to be written off in this one. He has targeted this race following a runner up spot in the Coral-Eclipse in July.

He took the win in last year’s Champion Stakes and if the ground eases a little more, then he will have a bigger chance.
