Atalanta News and Form

There has been some great form from Atalanta recently. They are currently on a thirteen match undefeated streak of form, winning nine of those. That’s across all competitions. They are running on a five-match winning streak currently, and in that streak they collected a recent 3-1 win in the league at Lazio. So that really is the kind of thing that will put them in good stead for this cup final. Atalanta have scored at least two goals in each of their last five games now. It has been a wonderful season from them, as with two games to go they are sitting third in Serie A and with a great shot at Champions League next season.

Both teams to score

Atalanta started their Coppa Italian campaign with a 2-0 win at Cagliari and then they pulled off the shock of this season’s tournament. That was a 3-0 home success over Juventus in the quarterfinals. They had a dramatic fight against Fiorentina at the semi-final stage of the competition though. The first leg was a thrilling 3-3 tie, before back on home soil, Atalanta closed out the deal with a 2-1 success. This will be their fourth appearance in the Coppa Italia final and their first since 1996. Their only win in the competition happened back in 1963.

Lazio News and Form

Just to put the season’s of the two clubs into context, Lazio are not too likely to finish in the top four this season in Serie A. They have found some better form for themselves recently though, having won three of their last four games played across all competition. The one game that they lost in that sequence as the loss against Atalanta in early May. Looking back at their expanded form a little bit they are W4 D1 L4 in their last nine played in all competitions. They have not been so strong at the back recently though, with only the one clean sheet in their last five played. They have taken just two in their last nine.

This has been actually a tough campaign by Lazio in the Coppa Italia and they have had to show some character. After an easy 4-1 opening win over Novara, things got a lot more challenging. They faced Inter Milan in the quarter finals and that one went all the way to penalties, both teams being reduced to ten men in extra time. Lazio won the shoot out at the San Siro. Then it was against AC Milan in the semifinals for them. That was a tough, tight battle all the way, with Lazio being held to a 0-0 draw at home in the first leg. But they went back to the San Siro and earned a 1-0 win. Lazio have won the Coppa Italia six times before, their last title coming back in the 2012/13 season.
