Australia Women News and Form  – Will the Matildas beat Brazil?

Australia have to try and pick up the pieces of suffering an opening defeat at the 2019 Women’s World Cup. They look to be one of the strong dark horse talents on show at the event, but couldn’t hold onto a lead which they had taken in their opener against Italy. It was their young star striker Sam Kerr who had put them ahead. Surprisingly they could not handle the response that Italy threw at them in the second half of the game.

The Italians produced a winner in the 95th minute of the game. So Australia have a huge problem on their hands. If they were to lose against Brazil in the second game, they will have a massively difficult time getting through to the next round. But if they can grab something out of this then they know they have an easier game against Jamaica to finish off with.

Can Australia fight back?

Australia are a team who are blessed with great scoring power, particularly through Sam Kerr. However, they look a bit shaky at the back. The loss against Italy was their third straight defeat, so their form has just deserted them at the wrong time. They put themselves into action against the United States and the Netherlands in international friendlies just before the start of the World Cup and lost those heavily.

The Matildas really now are facing a pressure situation because they were expected to comfortably beat the Italians. As a positive for them, Australia have scored in seven of their last eight games now and produced at least two goals in six of those eight. Can they muster up the best response possible by beating Brazil?

Key-Facts – Australia Women v Brazil Women

Brazil Women News and Form – Can Brazil win against Australia?

Brazil were in a horrendous run of form heading up to the 2019 Women’s World Cup. They looked all over the place and had put together a seven-match losing streak since October of last year. But come the big occasion they came up with the goods and actually played a pretty good game in taking a 3-0 victory over Jamaica.

They actually looked quite cohesive in the fixture, but of course, they will be going up against a much tougher opponent in this one than the Caribbean nation were. In their 3-0 win over Jamaica striker, Christiane became the oldest scorer of a World Cup hat-trick as she got all three of Brazil’s goals.

Have Brazil turned the corner?

Brazil had a tough time of things putting the ball in the back of the net in their buildup to the World Cup, netting just once in three games before the start of the event. Earlier this year they took on England, Japan and the USA at the SheBelievesCup and Brazil lost each of those.

While the win over Jamaica bust their losing streak and will have given them a bit of confidence, it will be interesting to see what happens to them against better quality opposition. They do now know if they can win this they will take full control of the group. Incidentally, Brazil did not call on striker Marta in their opening game.

Australia Women v Brazil Women Predictions

Australia to win: the thing about this fixture now is that Australia really have to come out and press and push for that winning touch. A win over Jamaica really doesn’t prove that Brazil have found their feet at all and a win for Australia still looks like a solid proposition.
