Prix Murat History
The Prix Murat was first run in 1902 in memory of the president of the first Société des Steeple-Chases de France. Run over 2m6f since the 1970s, it’s is regarded as a dress rehearsal for the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris being the only Group 2 chase on the way to the French steeplechasing’s Blue Riband.
Ten chasers have completed the Murat-Grand Steeple-Chase double in the same year but none since Kotkijet in 2001. Only six have managed to win the race more than once.

Prix Murat Predictions
Circumstances mean that the Prix Murat will be the only recognised trial for the Grand Steeple-Chase de Paris this year so it is disappointing that only seven runners stand their ground.
FIGUERO looks a worthy favourite.
He marked himself as the best four-year-old chaser of last year when winning the Prix Maurice Gallois. Taking on older horses for the first time, he won over hurdles at Compiegne on his reappearance and that should have blown away any cobwebs. Francois Nicolle’s rising star can pass this latest test with flying colours at 7/4 with Coral.
Ebonite has finished first or second in her last seven races.
Emmanuel Clayeux’s mare beat Poly Grandchamp in the Prix Troytown on her return to action and also appears to hold the latter as well as Carriacou and Roxinela on a cracking run in the Prix la Haye Jousselin last November. She is no shrinking violet and the general 10/3 will attract plenty of supporters.
Feu Follet won very easily at Compiegne in March.
That was a much more encouraging performance for Guillaume Macaire’s charge and he disappointed last year in the Prix Maurice Gallois. A Grade 1 winner over hurdles, he could be a viable alternative at 11/2 with Paddy Power if he has turned the corner, though still has a bit to prove.
Amour Du Mathan has failed to complete in a couple of Grade 3 races at Auteuil this year and is now 0-7 over the larger obstacles.
He should be good enough to win races over fences when he gets his act together but it would take a giant leap of faith to back him in a race like this at 66/1 with Coral.
