Barnsley v Brentford Predictions & Betting Odds – 29th September 2019

Important win for the Bees

Barnsley v Brentford Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 29th September 13.30pm

Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley welcome Thomas Frank’s Brentford to Oakwell for an EFL Championship fixture on Sunday afternoon. Despite being the home team, the Tykes are the 14/5 underdogs with the bookies, with the draw available at 5/2. Meanwhile, the Bees, who have been tipped to have a good season under Frank, are the favourites at evens. Who will come out on top in South Yorkshire at the weekend?

Barnsley News and Form – Another tough test for the Tykes?

Barnsley were promoted from EFL League One at the end of last season, finishing runners-up to Luton Town. It was a remarkable campaign for the club, as they picked up an outstanding 91 points. Stendel’s side were unbeaten at home, winning 15 and drawing eight.

Barnsley started life back in the second tier in tremendous fashion. The Tykes beat Fulham – who had just been relegated from the Premier League – 1-0 at Oakwell on the opening weekend of the Championship season, with Luke Thomas getting the only goal of the game.

However, things have gone downhill since then, as the Yorkshire club have taken just two points from their last seven in the Championship, drawing two and losing five. Barnsley are in the relegation zone at present, sitting on a mere five points from a possible 24.

Since drawing 0-0 at Wigan Athletic, Barnsley have lost their last two without scoring. After being beaten 2-0 by Leeds United at Oakwell, the Tykes fell to a 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest at the City Ground last time out.

Barnsley are on an alarming dip in form. Their opening day win at Fulham seems like a lifetime ago, and Stendel’s men desperately need three points sooner rather than later. Can the home team pick up a precious victory in this one?

Brentford News and Form – Rare away win for the Bees?

Before a ball was kicked in anger this season, Brentford were tipped to have a good season. In fact, the London outfit were available at just 14/1 with Ladbrokes to win the league. Fast forward eight games, the Bees are now priced at 50/1 (BetVictor).

Brentford have made a very slow start to their campaign, winning just two of their opening eight. Meanwhile, 50% of their league matches have ended in defeat, drawing the other two. Frank’s side go into Sunday’s showdown in Yorkshire having lost three of their last five, taking four points from 15 on the table.

Having lost 2-0 at Preston North End in their last away game, Brentford failed to beat lowly Stoke City last weekend, with the game at Griffin Park ending in a forgettable 0-0 draw.

Brentford have been very poor away from home this season, winning one and losing three of four. After beating Middlesbrough 1-0 at the Riverside Stadium in the first away game of their campaign, the Bees have lost successive away matches at Leeds, Charlton Athletic (both 1-0) and Preston (2-0).

Brentford’s season has yet to really get going, but that could change if they manage to take all three points at Oakwell on Sunday. The bookies certainly fancy the Bees’ chances, but will Frank’s troops perform in Yorkshire?

Barnsley v Brentford Predictions

Brentford win: Barnsley have found the step up to the Championship tough going so far. They have failed to build on their impressive win over the Cottagers, and the Tykes could be set for a season of struggle in the second tier.

Similarly, Brentford have not quite got going yet. The Londoners made some shrewd signings over the summer, but they also lost some key players. These are the type of matches that the Bees should be winning, though, and I can see them returning to Griffin Park with a big three points in the bag. The away win is available at evens. Although I’m tipping Brentford to win, I also fancy both sides to score (8/13) in this one.
