Barnsley v Fulham Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 3rd August 15.00pm

Daniel Stendel’s Barnsley entertain Scott Parker’s Fulham at Oakwell in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Tykes and the Cottagers were two leagues apart last season, but this could be a tight matchup in South Yorkshire. Fulham, who dropped out of the Premier League last term, head to Oakwell as the slight favourites, with bet365 offering 6/5 for an away win. Can Parker’s Whites start life back in the Championship with a victory?

Barnsley News and Form – Can the Tykes survive in the Championship?

Stendel did a fine job at Oakwell last season, guiding the club to promotion from EFL League One as runners-up behind Luton Town. The Yorkshire side picked up 26 wins (13 draws, seven defeats) from 46 league matches, accumulating a superb 91 points along the way.

Barnsley were very strong at home, as they were one of only two teams not to beaten on their own patch in League One. The Tykes secured an impressive 15 wins at Oakwell, drawing the other eight.

The Tykes were relegated when they were last in the Championship, finishing in 22nd place on 41 points. The club will be desperate to avoid the same fate this time around, and Barnsley have been very ambitions in the transfer market. No fewer than nine players have arrived at Oakwell, including Mads Andersen, Bambo Diaby and Luke Thomas.

Barnsley picked up four wins on the spin in pre-season, beating Stalybridge Celtic (5-0), Toulon (4-2), Bochum (2-1) and Arminia Bielefeld (3-2). However, they were brought back down to earth with a heavy 4-1 home loss to Premier League new boys Sheffield United last time out.

The club’s first aim will be Championship survival this season, but there’s no reason why Barnsley can’t push for a top-half finish under Stendel.

Fulham News and Form – Will the Cottagers make an instant return to the Premier League?

Fulham had an abysmal year in England’s top flight last term, winning just seven times as they finished second from bottom. The Cottagers were incredibly poor at the back, shipping a staggering 81 goals in 38 matches.

Fulham had the worst away record in the Premier League, picking up just one victory all season. 16 of their 19 away games ended in defeat. At home, though, Fulham won six times, seeing off Burnley, Southampton, Huddersfield Town, Brighton & Hove Albion, Everton and Cardiff City at Craven Cottage.

Parker has brought in some quality in the summer, with Ivan Cavaleiro and Anthony Knockaert moving to west London. However, they have lost the likes of Ryan Babel, Andre Anguissa and Jean Seri.

Fulham had a poor pre-season programme, winning just once – a 2-1 win over Brighton – and losing three times. In their last friendly, the Whites fell to a narrow 1-0 home reverse to West Ham United.

After such a poor season last time around, Fulham will be desperate to make amends this year. Before a ball has been kicked, the Londoners are one of the favourites for promotion.

Barnsley v Fulham Tips & Odds

Barnsley v Fulham Predictions

Fulham win: The Cottagers will be keen to start with a win this season. Barnsley are not an easy nut to crack on their own patch, and Fulham really struggled on the road last term, but we fancy Parker’s side to nick the points at Oakwell. Check out the top odds of 8/1 for the visitors to win 2-1. Also, 10/3 for Fulham to win and both teams to score is too good to turn down.
