Bayern Munich v Hertha Berlin Betting Tips – Bundesliga, 16th August 19.30pm

Bayern Munich kick off the defence of their Bundesliga title with a fixture against Hertha Berlin at the Allianz Arena on Friday evening. The Bavarians are once again the strong favourites to win the German league title, but Borussia Dortmund and Red Bull Leipzig – plus possibly one or two others – will be out to stop Niko Kovac’s side. FC Hollywood will be looking to get off to a flying start against Ante Covic’s Hertha on Friday night.

Bayern Munich News and Form – Routine home win for the champions?

Borussia Dortmund pushed Bayern Munich all the way in the race for the Bundesliga title last season. In the end, Kovac’s troops beat Dortmund to the line by just two points. The Bavarians picked up 24 wins from 34 league matches, losing four and drawing six of the other ten.

Bayern have been an incredibly tough nut to crack at the Allianz Arena since moving into the spectacular stadium back in the 2005-06 season. Die Roten were very strong on their own patch in the Bundesliga last term, winning 13 of their 17 home league fixtures.

Meanwhile, Borussia Monchengladbach were the only team to win in Munich in league action. After drawing with Fortuna Dusseldorf in November, Bayern won all of their remaining home league games last season.

Bayern Munich were the best away side in the German top tier last season. Kovac’s troops won 11, drew three and lost three. Their last league defeat on the road came in February, when FC Hollywood were beaten 3-1 by Bayer Leverkusen at the BayArena.

The Reds have had an indifferent start to their season. They kicked off with a 2-0 German Super Cup defeat to rivals Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. However, Bayern hit back with a 3-1 German Cup away win against Cottbus on Monday.

Dortmund kept Bayern honest in the race for the Bundesliga title last season. The 29-time German champions will be hoping for an easier ride this time around.

Hertha Berlin News and Form – Losing start for Covic?

Hertha Berlin finished in the bottom half of the German Bundesliga table last season. Overall, Berlin won 11, drew ten and lost 13. The Old Lady struggled for wins on the road, winning just five away games in last season’s Bundesliga.

The club appointed Berlin-born Ante Covic back in July. The 43-year-old was previously manager of Hertha Berlin II. As a player, Covic spent four years with Hertha from 1996 to 2000, racking up over 70 league appearances. Will he be successful at the Olympiastadion as boss?

It will be very interesting to see how Hertha get on with life after Pal Dardai, who opted to leave the Olympiastadion in the summer. Berlin will no doubt be pushing for a top-half finish after a couple of mediocre campaigns.

Hertha are the big underdogs in this one, with Ladbrokes pricing them a 18/1 to cause an upset at the Allianz Arena on Friday night.

Bayern Munich v Hertha Berlin Predictions

Bayern Munich win: FC Hollywood struggled in the two league fixtures against Hertha Berlin last season. In the league meeting at the Allianz Arena, Bayern picked up a 1-0 win thanks to a Javi Martinez strike. I can see the home team keeping a clean sheet once again, so have a punt on Bayern to win to nil at 5/6.

Poland international Robert Lewandowski was yet again top scorer in the Bundesliga last term, finding the net 22 times. The striker has been top scorer in Germany on four occasions during his excellent career. Lewandowski will want to hit the ground running this season, so put some money on Bayern’s No. 9 to score the first goal in this year’s Bundesliga, which you can get at 13/8.
