Belgium News and Form

It has been a comfortable ride for Belgium so far in the Euro 2020 qualification campaign. They have won all three games so far, scoring eight and conceding just the one. The Red Devils have scored at least two goals in each of their last five games now. Over the weekend they eased to a 3-0 success over Kazakhstan and at the end of this campaign, they will be expected to be sitting top of the pile. Belgium have scored exactly three goals in both of their home games so far.

It has all been fairly academical for them thus far. Belgium have won seven of their last nine games D1 L1. Their one defeat in that sequence happened against Switzerland in that final group stage match in the Nations League. That loss cost Belgium a place in the semi-finals. The Red Devils have taken a clean sheet in three of their last five fixtures. The amount of options in depth that they have at their disposal is ridiculous. Forwards Dries Mertens and Romelu Lukaku were both on target on the weekend. Eden Hazard scored two of their three goals in their 3-1 home win over Russia earlier in the group.

Belgium v Scotland Head to Head

  • The Scots have lost two of their last four away fixtures

Scotland News and Form

Steve Clarke celebrated a tense, late win at home over Cyprus in his first game in charge of the national side. Cyprus had equalized in the 87th minute and it looked as if Scotland had thrown away three big points. But then Oliver Burke netted in the 89th minute to give Scotland a home 2-1 win. So Clarke and the rest of the country will have been breathing a huge sigh of relief. This is a massive step up in quality of opposition though and they could be in a for difficult night. Scotland have two games each against Belgium and Russia in their next four qualifiers.

Scotland are W4 L1 in their last five games, so that is one positive that they have gone for them. But then you have to look at the quality of opposition that they have been up against. It hasn’t been great. They haven’t faced anyone of note since losing a friendly to Portugal back in October. Out on their travels in the group so far, Scotland suffered a 3-0 reverse at Kazakhstan and a pretty poor 2-0 win at San Marino. Scotland are W2 L2 in their last four away games.

Belgium v Scotland Predictions

Belgium to win: It is hard to see anything other than a home win occurring in this fixture. Belgium have the class and quality to ease themselves to yet another good win. There should be goals in this for them and a home to win to nil looks solid.
