The new season of the National Rugby League in Australia has just started up. The season opened with a tight match at the Natwest Stadium with the Parramatta Eels beating the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs 8-2.

The season is pushing ahead despite the outbreak, but all matches are going behind closed doors from round 2. That is because the Australian Government has restrictions on public events with gatherings of more than 500 people.

Roosters slip to opening defeat

Last season the Sydney Roosters lifted the NRL Premiers title for the fifteenth time. In doing so they became the first team to win back to back titles since the Brisbane Broncos pulled off the feat in the 1992 and 1993 season.

The Roosters opened their season with a shock defeat away at the Panthers so that was a disappointing footing for them to get off on. This weekend they face the Manly Sea Eagles at the Leichhardt Oval in search of a boost.
