There was a dramatic dream result for a punter at Betfred last weekend. The truck driver from Wigan correctly predicted the results of 11 matches from across England and Scotland and it was a thrilling late turnaround from ten-man Wycombe which sealed the deal for bettor Anthony Croston, as they somehow managed to topple Carlisle.
The bet was going down with Wycombe losing at home to Carlisle over the weekend 2-3 at the 90 minute mark, but the Chairboys, who have been in phenomenal scoring form this season, wouldn’t lie down despite their opponents having a man-advantage in the game as well, and they scored twice in stoppage time to turn the game around and keep Croston’s bet alive.
The father of five, a slurry truck driver, beat the odds of 2,120/1 joked: “You could say where there’s muck there’s brass.”
Other sections in the winning bet were Manchester United to beat Huddersfield at odds of 1/6 and Bournemouth to beat Stoke at evens. His Championship selections were predictions that Millwall would beat Reading (2/1), Preston would triumph at home against Hull (6/5) and that Fulham would beat Nottingham Forest (4/5).
He also correctly predicted Notts County would beat Crewe at 4/5, Scunthorpe to emerge victorious over Fleetwood (7/4) and Yeovil to overcome Cambridge United also at odds of 7/4. From Scotland, there were selections of Aberdeen beating Hamilton (8/15) and Hearts winning at home against St Johnstone at 5/6.
That would have been some high tension waiting on that result from Adams Park to come in. Wycombe were already down to ten men after Luke O’Nien was sent off and they we re 250/1 in play to back to go on and win the game late in the game. But an equaliser three minutes into stoppage time was followed up with Marcus Bean coming forth to volley the winner in the 96th minute!
