It has been a good start to 2019 for Blackburn who have won back to back Championship games. They were good wins too, over the high-flying West Brom and the away at the in-form Millwall on the weekend. Sandwiched in between those two good league wins was their draw against Newcastle at St James Park in this tie. Rovers nearly got the away win but conceded an equalising penalty in the 84th minute. Blackburn have been strong at Ewood Park this season and they have only suffered two defeats there across all competitions. They are W4 D2 L1 in their last seven there. The only negative in that form really is that they have no clean sheet in five there. But the positive is that they have scored in six of their last seven games on home soil.

 

Newcastle News and Form

There was another league defeat for Newcastle on the weekend, going down 2-1 at Chelsea. That saw the Magpies end the weekend in the relegation zone. They are struggling for confidence at the moment in terms of wins, having taken one victory in their last six (D3 L3) in all competitions. In their last ten, they have managed just the one win, which was against current Premier League bottom-side Huddersfield.

Newcastle were nowhere near at full strength for that game against Blackburn, and it’s not likely they will be for this as they need to focus more on surviving in the Premier League. Newcastle have won just two away games this season, both one-goal margin victories. They have earned only the one clean sheet in their last seven away from St James Park, but they have scored in six of their last seven on the road. Newcastle have lost two for their last three visits to Ewood Park.
