Brexit chaos continues to fuel politics markets

Novelty Betting & Other Events Betting

The Brexit confusion looks no closer to being resolved really. This week there was a draft withdrawal deal presented by PM Theresa May to her cabinet and while it was accepted by the cabinet, it hasn’t gone down too well with Brexit hardliners.

Because of the deal, two cabinet ministers and two junior ministers have jumped the ship by resigning and some MPs have been trying to gather momentum and support to force a leadership contest by giving letters of no confidence in the Premier Minister.

The date and time set for the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union is, Friday, March 29th, 11 pm. This was after the 2016 referendum in which 51.9% of the public voted to pull out. It has been dragging on for over a year just how exactly the UK is going to go about withdrawing.

May announced that a deal has been reached with Brussels but that counts for nothing as she still needs support from MPs as well as the EU Member States, all 27 of them. November 25th will see the draft deal go to the EU summit to get approval. Then the UK Parliament votes in December. If it is a no vote in Parliament then it’s back to the drawing board for May and co.

The outcome of a No vote in Parliament over Brexit could mean that the UK leaves the EU with no deal in place, the potential of renegotiating, a general election or even a referendum. Among the hefty withdrawal agreement includes things like how much the UK has to pay to the EU and what rights UK citizens living in the EU will have and what rights EU citizens living in the UK have.

Raab rebels

Dominic Raab, who was the Brexit Secretary resigned this week because of the draft withdrawal agreement and that could set a house of cards tumbling. He stated that he couldn’t support the deal. It has just been another part of the chaos that has been going on this weekend and following his resignation, Raab was moved into 4/1 to be the next Prime Minister* (betting odds taken on November 15th, 2018 at 8:36 pm).

With such a revolt among her cabinet, that has naturally sparked up the interest in May herself leaving her position as Prime Minister. It certainly doesn’t look great for May although she has vowed to push on and get things sorted out.

In light of the week’s chaos, William Hill and other bookmakers have decided to not take any chance of May leaving office by the end of 2018 by slashing the odds down to 4/6 odds from 6/1* (betting odds taken on November 15th, 2018 at 8:36 pm).
