Bookmaker News

On Monday, February 12th, 2018 Paddy Power had to suspend betting on the gender of the next royal baby. With Prince William and Kate expecting their third child, a flurry of bets came in early in the week the operator was forced to put a stop on the market.

The activity that Paddy Power saw was from lunchtime on Monday and the market on the gender of the next Royal was suspended. The bookmaker has also slashed the odds on the child being named Mary from 12/1 to 3/1.

Asked about the royal baby odds spokesman Paddy Power said: “We thought everyone was only talking about the Royal Wedding until someone came along with a right royal bet on Kate and Will’s third child.

“We’re convinced now that it’ll be a little girl, with Mary now four times more likely after today’s betting.”

Other bookmakers followed suit as well with Coral moving the name “Mary” into 4/1 from 20/1 while Betfair also slashed their odds on the name into 3/1 on Monday* (betting odds taken Monday, January 12th, 2018 at 5.00 p.m.).

Coral’s John Hill said: “There’s something about Mary which has prompted a huge gamble in the name of the Kate and Will’s third baby betting and after this surge of interest, it is now the new favourite ahead of Alice and Victoria.
