Borussia Dortmund News and Form

Borussia Dortmund have to turn on the style in this one. They have certainly shown enough scoring power this season to at least make this interesting. The last time they were in the round of sixteen they won their home leg against Benfica 4-0. That’s the minimum of what they need here. BVB have a W3 L1 record in their four previous round of sixteen ties in the Champions League. This is the fifth time in seven seasons that they have been at this stage. The Germans have only won one of their last seven UEFA competition knockout fixtures though.

Their record against English sides is W3 L2 in two-legged knockout ties. The last time that they hosted an English side was Liverpool in the 2015/16 UEFA Europa League quarters. Their home record against English sides is W6 D4 L2. The two defeats in that sequence happened against Spurs (last season) and against Arsenal back in the 2013/14 group stage. Dortmund took a clean sheet in each of their three group stage home games. Borussia Dortmund have three wins in their last nine European home games only (D2 L4). BVB have won eight of the 16 UEFA competition ties in which they lost the first leg away from home.

Key-Facts – Borussia Dortmund v Tottenham

  • Dortmund are W6 D4 L2 at home against English sides
  • Dortmund have not conceded a home goal in Europe this season
  • Spurs are W4 D2 L6 in Germany

Tottenham News and Form

Tottenham are going to come under pressure in this game without question. It depends how much and how early in the game really that it is going to happen. They are probably going to have to weather a tough start. Each of the five previous games between Spurs and Dortmund have gone over 2.5 goals. Spurs are aiming to reach the final eight for the second time only. They are W1 L1 from their two previous appearances at this stage. Spurs have only lost one of their last five visits to Germany, which was their visit to Dortmund in 2016.

Their overall record out in Germany is W4 D2 L6. Tottenham have posted a W4 L3 record in their seven previous two-legged knockout ties against German opposition. The Lilywhites though have lost their last two such ties. In this season’s group stage, Spurs took just the two points from their three road games. They have only actually managed to take four wins in their last 18 European away fixtures (W7 L7). The North London club have won 16 of the 18 ties in UEFA competition in which they won the home first leg.
