Borussia Monchengladbach News and Form – Will the Foals extend their unbeaten run?

Borussia Monchengladbach, who are now managed by former Red Bull Salzburg head coach Marco Rose, kicked off their season with a 1-0 German Cup win over SV Sandhausen. Marcus Thuram’s early goal proved to be the difference at the Hardtwaldstadion.

The Foals then began their league campaign with a solid 0-0 draw with Schalke at Borussia-Park. Monchengladbach dominated the ball and had a number of shots on goal, but Rose’s troops failed to get past Alex Nubel in the Schalke net.

 

 

Last weekend, Monchengladbach were too strong for Mainz at the Opel Arena. Despite going a goal down early on to a Robin Quaison strike, Die Borussen left Mainz with a deserved 3-1 win. Stefan Lainer levelled on the half-hour mark, with second-half goals from Alassane Plea and Breel Embolo doing the business.

Monchengladbach had a solid season in the Bundesliga last term, going on to claim a fifth-place finish, accumulating 55 points in the process. They were strong at home, winning nine, drawing three and losing five. Can they kick on even further under Rose?

Red Bull Leipzig have picked up three wins out of three in all competitions so far this season. The Red Bulls got up and running with a 3-2 win at Osnabruck in the German Cup. It was a thrilling game, with Marcel Sabitzer helping himself to a brace. Lukas Klostermann got the other.

Leipzig then thrashed Union Berlin 4-0 away from home on the opening weekend of the new Bundesliga season. RB ran riot in Berlin, with Marcel Halstenberg, Sabitzer, Timo Werner and Christopher Nkunku all getting in on the act at the Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.

Leipzig, who have won both of their away league and cup matches so far, were excellent on the road last term. The Red Bulls won nine of their 17 away matches, with only the top two – Bayern Munich (36) and Borussia Dortmund (32) – accumulating more away points than Leipzig’s 30.

In their last outing, Julian Nagelsmann’s troops claimed a hard-fought 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt to preserve their 100% start. Goals from the prolific Werner and the superb Yussuf Poulson put them two up before Goncalo Paciencia pulled one back at the death.

Having won back-to-back games at the start of this Bundesliga campaign, RB Leipzig will be looking for a third league win on the spin this Friday. Currently, the visitors are priced at evens to take all three points home to Leipzig.
