Bosnia v Iran World Cup 2014, 25th June Betting Preview

It was expected that this match was going to come down to Bosnia needing to win it to guarantee a place in the knockouts. But the Europeans are out of Group F, but this isn’t quite a dead rubber, because against all the odds, Iran could make it through. Can there be, what would be a bigger shock than Costa Rica qualifying, in a huge act by Iran?

Bosnia v Iran Betting Tips

Iran need two things to happen though. They need to come out and do something which they haven’t done much of, and that is win. But in order to make it to the last sixteen, they would also need Nigeria to be defeated by Argentina in the other group game. Carlos Queiroz’s Iran won huge plaudits in their last game, as they very nearly, deservedly it has to be said, held out for a 0-0 draw against Argentina. However, a brilliant Lionel Messi goal deep into injury time sent Iran crashing to defeat.

There’s little question about their ability to defend, but do they have the power up front? While they have kept four clean sheets in their last six, they have only scored three goals in that period (two of them in one game). No other team qualified for the World Cup with conceding fewer goals than Iran did. They know how to defend and they are tough to break. They have lost just the one of their last six matches incidentally, that defeat against Argentina. During that sequence, they have taken good draws against Belarus, Montenegro and Nigeria in that run of form this year. Their best options going forward are Reza Ghoochannejhad at 11/4 and Ashkan Dejagah in the anytime goalscorer market. Their near miss against Argentina followed a big success for them in taking a point out of Nigeria in a 0-0 draw.

Bosnia had been trading as second favourites behind Argentina to qualify from Group F. After a good performance in defeat against the Albiceleste, they blew their lines in their second match, as they lost to the out-of-form Nigeria in a bit of a shock upset. Bosnia just didn’t have a reply up front to falling behind. Still, Edin Dzeko is even money favourite in the anytime goalscorer market alongside Vedad Ibisevic, but, as with most teams who get knocked out early, there are likely to be team changes which could play to Iran’s favour.

Bosnia v Iran Predictions

Both are struggling for goals so the best way to cover this match would be to go under 2.5 goals. It doesn’t have the look of being a classic and could easily up 0-0. Can Iran pull off one of the biggest underdog stories and find a way to get through to the next round? It doesn’t look that likely unfortunately.
