Talk about having some confidence in a bet. A punter has struck a bold €5k at bookmaker Boylesports on Conor McGregor to beat his big rival Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 on the weekend in Las Vegas.

Former featherweight and lightweight titleholder McGregor is the 11/8 underdog for the bout. If the €5k stake on ‘Notorious’ was to win that would return just under €12,000 winnings for the punter.

Aoife Heffron, Spokesperson for Boylesports commented: “ The Wicklow punter clearly thought out 11/8 odds on McGregor to win were far too generous and saw their opportunity to take advantage by placing a whopping €5,000 on him to win.”

McGregor who has been away from the sport for a couple of years, having been stripped of his titles because of inactivity, goes up against the undefeated Russian for the lightweight title. Boylesports have reported a series of big bets on the Irishman to take down the champion.

Back in August a punter from Dublin slapped €5,500 on McGregor to take the bout back at 7/5 odds. That would leave the punter which a nice €13,200 winnings pot if Notorious can win on his comeback. The bookmaker reported receiving two €5,000 stakes on a McGregor victory early this week in the build-up to the bout.
