Hamilton to miss out in Brazil

Brazil Grand Prix 2018 Preview – November 11th, 2018

Lewis Hamilton was crowned the World Champion for the fifth time in his career as he did enough at the Mexican Grand Prix in finishing fourth to claim the title. So the season from that competitive perspective is over as things move on to Brazil. The Constructors Championship is still up for grabs though and that is going to be the big battle to watch this weekend. In order to do that they have to make sure that Ferrari doesn’t outscore them by more than 12 points at Interlagos.

Hamilton to ease off or just go all out?

There are two ways to look at this from the perspective of Lewis Hamilton. He has once again proven to be the best in the world. Now that the Championship has been secured does that mean that he is going to ease back and just coast, or will he just go for broke without really any worries of a mistake costing him anything? He was definitely a little more on the conservative side at Mexico, although the team got the tyre strategy a bit screwy for him. Hamilton has won this once before, in 2016.

Vettel to finish strongly?

The pressure of the title race is off Sebastian Vettel of course and although the German failed to topple Hamilton, he could be feeling a little easier about his drive now with no pressure. He is the reigning champion at Brazil where he has a better record than Hamilton does. The German has won there three times before. To his credit he put in a great drive to get second in Mexico and his confidence will have been raised with a very good overtaking move performed on the inside, something that he has struggled with this season. Well worth a look this weekend is the Ferrari driver.

Winner of the Mexican Grand Prix Max Verstappen, who was untroubled all the way really has a bit of extra incentive now because he could still challenge for third place in this season’s Championship if other results from drivers go his way. The Red Bull driver has two wins under his belt. He was running well on Friday as well and is even money for a top three finish* ( betting odds taken on November 9th, 2018 at 2:52 pm).

He could be on his own though as his teammate Daniel Ricciardo could be facing a grid penalty. Then there is Valtteri Bottas, who has been denied a win by team orders in favour of Lewis Hamilton this season. Can he get his race on?

Vettel looks a good fit because Hamilton has just been struggling over the last couple of races with a lack of pace. He has no reason to be competitive at all in this one. There is a bit of a trend too because, in each of his four previous seasons in being crowned Champion, Hamilton has failed to win a race after having won the title in a given season.

Verstappen seems to be the one with the bit between his teeth at the moment as well and the Red Bull team have gone well here before. It’s worth a look at Vettel to win and Verstappen for a top three.
