Brazil v Mexico World Cup 2014, 17th June Betting Preview
The second round of Group Stage action at the 2014 World Cup kicks off here, as host nation Brazil swing back into action in Group A. They take on the Mexicans who posted an opening victory themselves over Cameroon. Can the Mexicans pull off a shock win, or will the Brazilians simply add to their tournament favouritism?

Brazil v Mexico Betting Tips

The Brazilians will be hoping to keep the Samba party atmosphere going as they head into their second group match and hope to take another big step towards winning the group. Brazil opened with a win over Croatia and will be looking to double up on their points haul. The Selecao did have to come from behind in that match, but a great performance from Neymar, with some help from the referee, saw Brazil take a 3-1 win. Neymar is trading at 8/11 favourite in the anytime goalscorer market, with Fred an option at Even money. You don’t really see the Mexicans keeping Brazil off the scoresheet in this one.

It is probably going to be worth looking over 2.5 goals for this one, because Brazil do have firepower in their ranks. They are going to look to build some big momentum here and they hold a strong head to head record of 22-10 against Mexico. They have met three times before at the World Cup and Brazil have won each of those three matches to nil, scoring eleven goals in those three matches. The two sides most recently met in the 2013 Confederations Cup and Brazil eased their way to a 2-0 victory on that occasion, with Neymar opening the scoring in the game. Brazil have now won their last ten matches in a row and in their last seventeen have won sixteen and lost just one. Very impressive and they have kept three clean sheets in their last four matches.

Mexico put defeats in their final two World Cup matches behind them with a 1-0 win over Cameroon in their Group A opener. Mexico did look wasteful in front of goal though, lacking some quality in the final third, where their defence looked open enough to give up plenty of chances against Brazil. There is a lack of consistency with the Mexicans, and a better side than Cameroon would have probably beaten them relatively comfortably. Oribe Peralta, who scored their winner against Cameroon is trading at 7/2 in the anytime goalscorer market. Mexico have actually won two of the last five meetings against Brazil, but they look as if they will be second best here.

Brazil v Mexico Predictions

Mexico’s labouring over an average side like Cameroon, doesn’t speak volumes about them. They don’t look solid enough at the back at all to counter the movement and creativity of Brazil. Would expect Brazil to cruise to a comfortable victory here and would push the game over 2.5 goals. Neymar in the anytime goalscorer market looks decent value too.
