Brazil News and Form

Brazil earned seven points from their three group stage games in this home Copa America for them. They did at times though struggle to get their creative juices flowing, especially in their first couple of fixtures. They ended up taking a 3-0 win over Bolivia and then a 0-0 draw with Venezuela. Then Brazil earned a big 5-0 win over Peru, which is a big reason that they are going into this final as such strong favourites.

In their nine games during the 2019 calendar year, the Brazilians have posted a W6 D3 record. They are currently riding a seven-match undefeated streak of form. They have become a really tough side to beat under head coach Tite. All of this campaign has been played without Neymar. Following the pressure of a penalty shootout against Paraguay in the quarterfinals, goals from Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino saw the hosts take a 2-0 win over Argentina in the semis.

Peru News and Form

There were four points collected by Peru from their games against Venezuela and Bolivia at the start of their group stage campaign. Heading into that third game against Brazil, they will have been aware that they had probably done enough to get through as one of the best third-placed teams at worst. But they will have expected to do a little bit better than the 5-0 drubbing they suffered against the Selecao. Peru are a team who play to their defensive efforts.

At the quarter-final stage, they took on Uruguay. Peru’s goal was peppered throughout the fixture. But still, they survived twelve shots on target against them and managed to hold out for a 0-0 draw. Then it was a big penalty shoot-out success that they took to get through to the semi finals against Chile. The Chileans, winners of the last two Copa America titles were the strong favourites in that game. But again Peru survived defensively and brilliantly took the few chances that came their way to earn a 3-0 win. Peru have now finished in the top four in three of the last four editions. Can they produce a defensive effort good enough to blank the Selecao?

Brazil v Peru Predictions

Brazil to win: This does not look like a case of Peru learning from their mistakes in their group stage game against Brazil. They are still likely to come up second best. They are reliant on their defence, but the Brazilians can crack them again. Brazil to win to nil.
