They took the lead twice in the fixture but, even with the Gunners down to ten men, the Villains could not close things out to get the precious points. They lost 3-2. But they were competitive and challenged until their collapse at the end, leaving them with only one point from their last three Premier League fixtures.
Villa took a 6-1 win over Crewe in the previous round of this season’s League Cup. They have won three of their last four away games in the competition. The last time that Aston Villa when out on the road to face a Premier League side in the competition, they ended up losing at Southampton back in the 2015 edition.
