Brighton News and Form – Can the Seagulls beat Aston Villa?

There was a 0-0 draw for Brighton in the Premier League on the weekend. So they are stuck on just one league success for the campaign and are winless in five (D3 L2). Their success in the previous round of the EFL Cup came with a 2-1 victory over Bristol Rovers. They are W2 L3 in their last five games in the competition following that result against the Pirates (including extra time).

Three for their last four fixtures in the League Cup have produced a 1-0 scoreline. Their last five have all been settled by just the one-goal margin. This one probably isn’t going to be anything different. Brighton’s League Cup campaign last season was ended by a Premier League opponent, Southampton taking them out.

Aston Villa News and Form – Can Villa land the away win at teh Amex?

It was a good effort from Aston Villa out at Arsenal in the Premier League on the weekend. They took the lead twice in the fixture but, even with the Gunners down to ten men, the Villains could not close things out to get the precious points. They lost 3-2. But they were competitive and challenged until their collapse at the end, leaving them with only one point from their last three Premier League fixtures.

Villa took a 6-1 win over Crewe in the previous round of this season’s League Cup. They have won three of their last four away games in the competition. The last time that Aston Villa when out on the road to face a Premier League side in the competition, they ended up losing at Southampton back in the 2015 edition. It has been one clean sheet only for Aston Villa in their last nine road games in the League Cup.

Brighton v Aston Villa Predictions

Brighton to win: It is a little tough to split these two as neither are carrying great form and neither looks to be a side who are going to be full of goals. So we are expecting a low scoring game to play itself out at the Amex. But home soil advantage can drag the Seagulls over the line.
