Brighton News and Form

Brighton had a tough time of things at home against Bournemouth on the weekend, suffering a heavy defeat. That left them fourth from bottom, but they have a five-point cushion over Cardiff who are a place beneath them. So avoiding defeat at all costs has to be on the cards for Brighton here. But a win would pretty much secure their safety you would feel. If it is a loss that they suffer, then that will raise the stress levels in the final run in. Brighton are currently on a three-match losing streak and have lost three of their last four at the Amex in the top flight as well.

Brighton have a home record of W6 D4 L1 this season. The Seagulls have picked up just the one win in their last six on home soil now (W1 D1), so they are having their struggles on the south coast. They only just average over a goal per home fixture in the EPL this season, banking a clean sheet in 31% of home games. They have conceded 61% of goals Amex after the half time break. Brighton have opened the scoring in less than half of their Premier League home games. Of the six victories that Brighton have taken, all but one of them have been by the one-goal margin. Just the three teams beneath them have worse home records in the EPL than that of Brighton’s.

  • Cardiff have lost their last three away games

Cardiff News and Form

So Cardiff have to lay it all on the line in this one. They absolutely have to get three points out of this to get a realistic shot at staying up. They suffered a defeat on the weekend out at Burnley though and that was their third defeat on the bounce. However, what will give them a bit of hope is that they are undefeated, home and away, against sides currently in the bottom five of the table with them (W4 D2). They are not carrying any kind of away from with them at the moment, having lost each of their last three top-flight games on their travels.

The Bluebirds have only scored the nine goals away from home this season and all but one of those were scored in the second half of matches. The problem at the other end is that they have conceded at an average of almost two goals per game. The Bluebirds have not managed a clean sheet in any of their last six away from home, earning just the three across the course of the season. Cardiff have conceded at least two goals in each of their last three away games. In no away game this season have Cardiff been leading at half time, in fact, they have been losing at the break in 9 of 16 games. Only bottom side Huddersfield have managed to score fewer goals than Cardiff have done in this season’s top flight.

Brighton v Cardiff Predictions

Brighton to win: This is going to be a tense affair at the Amex with both of these really needing to collect the three points from the game. On the balance of things, Brighton have done better at home this season than what Cardiff have done on the road. It may just be the home advantage against Brighton are precious victory. Home win.
