Bristol v Gloucester Preview

Bristol are second from bottom in the Gallagher Premiership at the moment. Last weekend they suffered a 26-36 loss out at Harlequins which leaves them in some poor form. That is a three-match losing streak in the Premiership that they are on at the moment also having gone down against Wasps and Exeter in that sequence. So they really to find some kind of lift from somewhere.

However, it is going to be questionable as to whether or not they are going to have the defence to hold out. No team has conceded more tries in the Premiership this season than Bristol have done. They have conceded more points in total this season in the top flight than any other too. It is little surprise that they are underdogs here. A Gloucester -3 handicap is at 10/11 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on February 26th, 2019 at 7:07 pm)

Head to Head

Gloucester produced a 35-13 win at Kingsholm back in September over the Bears. That was their fifth straight league win over them. In none of those five wins over Bristol have Gloucester conceded more than 18 points in a game. Four of those five they conceded 14 or fewer against them.

Gloucester are going well at the moment. In their last two games, they have beaten the top two of Exeter and then Saracens last weekend. They were in a little slump of form before, having lost three in a row in all competitions, but the Cherry & Whites seem to have broken that very well. This is a good chance to get some pressure on Harlequins as well for third place in the table.

The last time that Gloucester were out on the road in the Gallagher Premiership was right at the start of January when they lost 34-16 at Leicester. They have lost their other two away games since then, against Castres in the European Rugby Championship Cup and then a hammering in a nothing match against Bath in the Premiership Rugby Cup. Expect them to be dialled in here.

Bristol v Gloucester Prediction

Gloucester have a bit of wind in their sails and that’s hard to ignore. The confidence from having taken back to back wins over Exeter and Saracens really should propel them forward even further. There are big points up for grabs here against the weak defence of Bristol. Gloucester to win.
