Hamilton to continue Silverstone form

Silverstone is where Lewis Hamilton needs to reduce a win this weekend. After a difficult time last time out in Austria where Hamilton was penalised places, he battled away to a fourth place finish and while his teammate Valtteri Bottas took the win in the race to limit the damage of Sebastian Vettel getting further ahead of Hamilton in the championship race. The gap between Hamilton and Vettel is now out to twenty points. But it’s not just that now, because Bottas is starting to play his way into contention as well.

So can Hamilton strike back? It was a good time for the Mercedes drivers on Friday in the second practice where they landed a 1-2 with Bottas leading. However, he faces a five place grid penalty which should propel Hamilton into a very strong position to get away at the start. The race in Austria was arguably the dullest of the entire season and it is worth looking at Hamilton for pole. Between himself and Bottas they have taken seven of the nine Pole Positions this season.

Hamilton is a price of 1/2 to take pole at Coral in the British Grand Prix betting with Vettel at 8/1. This is a race where Hamilton needs to really pull things together. Hamilton’s won each of his last three appearances at Silverstone so the current history and form are firmly with him and he just has such a great track record at the course that it is hard to ignore the value on backing him to take the win in this one. The three time world championship should sweep a Pole/Win double at the races.

Daniel Ricciardo is the value bet of the race to get himself onto the podium at a price of 11/4 with Coral. He is on a run of five straight podium finishes this season and he took that victory at the crazy Azerbaijan Grand Prix recently as well. The Red Bulls will be hoping that they can match better speed to the Mercedes and the Ferrari at Silverstone and that should push them into contention. It is unlikely that he would pull out the win here unless something goes drastically wrong for Hamilton.

As for Vettel, you can never count him out of the running of course and he will be back with that win at all costs mentality of his. Vettel does have a win under his belt in the British Grand Prix taking the chequered flag first in 2009. But that doesn’t’ stack up to the impressive four title haul that Hamilton has in his home Grand Prix. With Bottas facing his place penalty, it should leave Hamilton, Vettel and Riccardo scrapping it out for the places on the podium at Silverstone.
