British Masters 2020 Tournament Details

The event is being hosted at the Lee Westwood Colt Course, Close House in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

It’s a fairly new course which was only opened in 2011 and the venue made its European Tour debut in 2017 with the hosting of the British Masters.

It is a par 71 tournament which is being played at 6,872 yards. The rough has been trimmed low so that players don’t have to search for wayward strikes.

The event is being played without spectators.

2019 Review

There was a massive odds winner last year at the British Masters. It was Marcus Kinhult who came from around 300/1 to claim the title after shooting a -16 for the event.

It’s not a particularly long course and big hitters don’t really gain much of an advantage off the tee at all.

With wide fairways, accuracy really doesn’t come into play all that much either.

Last 5 British Masters winners

  • 2019 – Marcus Kinhult -16
  • 2018 – Eddie Pepperell -9
  • 2017 – Paul Dunne -20
  • 2016 – Alex Noren -18
  • 2015 – Matthew Fitzpatrick -15

British Masters 2020 Betting Favourite

There’s an Englishman at the head of the market.

An English player has come through the field to claim the win in half of the last dozen renewals, so naturally home players will have appeal in British Masters 2020 golf betting.

Right at the top of the market there is 47 year old Lee Westwood who has rediscovered some great form.

Before the PGA Tour went into its enforced break, Westwood played superbly to take the fourth-place finish at the Honda Classic. Back in January, he won the Abu Dhabi Championship and he should bring some strong claims.

Westwood has strong course knowledge as well and it’s not the strongest of fields that he is taking on, because of bigger fish being fried over in the USA.

Westwood has the form and sits as an 8/1 option in British Masters 2020 golf betting* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).

Thomas Detry

Belgium’s Thomas Detry is fancied to get close to securing his first success on the European Tour.

That long winless career on the tour may put some punters off. But his form has been very steady since February.

Detry scored at T6 at the Saudi International and then in March he landed himself in the top twenty in the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. But the real form to warrant keeping him on side comes from last week’s effort in Austria.

There was a T8 finish at the Austrian Open for Detry and he has been under par in six of his last eight rounds of pro golf.

Detry is one of the more talented in this field and if he can get full focus for each day, he should be a contender.

Detry is the second favourite in the field to the tune of 12/1* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020). Will this be his big breakthrough?

Considering that he has been in the money in 6 of the last 13 tournaments he’s played, the e/w option has to be sized up.

British Masters 2020 Golf betting tip: Thomas Detry 12/1 e/w

Adria Arnaus

Spain’s Adria Arnaus is going to get a lot of backing in a field like this. He is at 28/1 to claim the win outright* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).

Arguably behind Westwood, Arnaus is the best player in the entire field.

His game should be a natural fit for the course and he is so good at saving pars when the opportunities arise.

He did play in Austria last week and claimed 11th place there. He should really have taken a top ten finish but a couple of late bogeys under pressure did see him slip up.

The form that he showed at the Dubai Desert Classic, securing a top-five finish there is really the best of the young Spaniard.

British Masters 2020 Golf betting tip: Adria Arnaus 7/1 Top Five Finish

Richie Ramsay

Scotland’s Richie Ramsay generally does well whenever he steps out on UK soil for an event. Three years ago he claimed a top ten finish in the British Masters and only efforts on the two par 5’s at the course held him back.

Last year he produced some wonderfully consistent stuff at the likes of the Scottish Open, Irish Open and the Wales Open. He has to bring some top ten claims to the table in this one.

If you look solely back at how well Ramsay went at this venue in 2017, then it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him perform well again.

British Masters 2020 Golf betting tip: Richie Ramsay 4/1 Top 10 Finish

Others to note

Two of the last four winners have been Swedish and the reigning champion is Sweden’s Marcus Kinhult. He is back for a title defence. This will be his first action since the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in March.

Kinhult was T7 in that effort, his best performance for some time. Mind you, back when he won the British Masters last year that was his first success anywhere since 2015.

So things can come from the blue. He scored last year’s win brilliantly as he birdied the last two holes to slide home.

Kinhult is a 28/1 odds option to retain his title* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).

Eddie Pepperell was runner up last year in what was a title defence at the British Masters for the English man. He has not been interested in going to the US PGA Championships, so should be dialled in here.

It will be his first competitive action since March when he missed the cut at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters. Pepperell is a 25/1 odds option* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).

British Masters golf betting predictions

The last two events that have been played on the European PGA Tour since it returned to action both saw triple-figure winners (pre-tournament).

The PGA Championship is coming up in the USA in early August and most of Europe’s elite players are gearing up for that.

So this is not a particularly strong field so longer priced options in British Masters 2020 golf betting can be sized up.

Because of that, we think there is a good chance her for Adri Arnaus to put everything together at such a good price of 28/1 pre-tournament to come through with the win* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).

It is really arguable as to whether or not there is a better player in the event than he is.

As our long shot picks we would consider Richie Ramsay to put together yet another steady performance on UK soil.

Oliver Wilson from out at 214/1 would be the really long pick* (betting odds taken from Betway at 21:40 GMT on Tuesday, July 21st 2020).
