Callum Wilson evens to go to Chelsea in January

Will Blues make January move for a striker?

Next Manager Betting & Transfers

Chelsea needs a striker. That much is pretty clear. With Olivier Giroud nursing an ankle injury and Alvaro Morata looking pretty lost and short of confidence in his role, the Blues are lightweight up front.

After their draw with Southampton in their first EPL game of the new season, Blues boss Maurizio Sarri hinted that the board are fully aware of his needs and desire for a striker. But this is the January transfer window now and it’s hard to secure players, at least the best in the world.

That usually happens during the summer months. So do Chelsea gamble now? Who is available? Would they even dip into the market to just get a stop-gap until they get to the summer? It would be a boost for them to have someone who is going to come in and play with a bit of heart until the end of the season.

Will Wilson make the switch?

Callum Wilson is the perfect fit for the Blues. The 26-year-old Bournemouth striker is someone who puts himself about and can unsettle defences. He’s a good age, has proven Premier League experience and would be a great option for Chelsea to grab, even if he has to play second fiddle somewhat next season if Chelsea goes shopping in the summer.

Following Bournemouth’s swoop for Dominic Solanke this week, it could open a window for a departure for Wilson. They have already agreed to let Jermain Defoe go to Rangers so maybe the Cherries are ready for a shakeup. Callum Wilson is at even money with BetVictor to be at Chelsea at the end of the January transfer window* (betting odds taken from BetVictor on January 4th, 2019 at 6:00 pm)

Icardi the main target?

Inter Milan Mauro Icardi is the one that Chelsea seem to be the most linked with in terms of bringing a world-class star striker to the bridge. The Argentine striker is clearly looking for a move and there are rumours of Barcelona going after him as well. He would bring a bit of fire to the Chelsea front line but the Blues would really have to play through the nose to trigger his release clause.

Jamie Vardy wouldn’t actually be a bad stop-gap type of player for Chelsea. The Leicester man is quick and knows where the goal is. That is exactly what Chelsea need. The 31-year-old would be a decent enough fit and Chelsea could do a lot worse than picking him up. You can picture him being a pivotal part in those quick Chelsea counter-attacks. Vardy is a 6/1 option at BetVictor to be at Chelsea at the close of the January transfer market* (betting odds taken from BetVictor on January 4th, 2019 at 6:00 pm)

West Ham’s Marko Arnautovic would be the kind of player that divides Chelsea fans. Sometimes brilliant sometimes anonymous. He is probably wouldn’t be the big strong fit that Chelsea would require. West Ham spent a lot on him as well and the Blues would likely to have to overpay for the striker.
