Can Hamilton strike back in Canada?

Sports Betting

The next round of F1 action has arrived with the Canadian Grand Prix being hosted. This race will mark the return of Fernando Alonso after his run at the Indianapolis 500. He has put pressure on his Honda team by saying that they have to get competitive or else he will be leaving them at the end of the year. He didn’t have a great return as he broke down in the first practice at the Canadian Grand Prix.

The state of play in the Drivers Championship has Sebastian Vettel leading the way in his Ferrari with a 25 point lead over Lewis Hamilton. Vettel was again successful in the last race, when he took the title at Monaco, with Hamilton failing to make it to the podium. So that extended the German’s lead in the World Championship and was his third victory of the year. He has still managed to get on the podium in every race.

So Hamilton badly needs a response in this one now and he was quick in practice on Friday. That was a response that the team needed because the Mercedes were poor on Monaco, particularly Hamilton who was just lacking pace. But they seemed to be back on their mark in the first practice in Canada which will give Hamilton the chance to make up some ground on Vettel. Hamilton is running as even money favourite at Ladbrokes to take the win in the race, with Vettel at 15/8.

Hamilton is the one with the form at the Canadian Grand Prix having won the last two editions of it in his Mercedes. He has won the race five times before and that is compared to just the one that Sebastian Vettel has won, back in 2013. So this is a race for which Hamilton has a clear affinity and he is an 8/11 punt to take Pole for the race with Vettel at 9/4. The Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a pretty unforgiving track because of the low grip and dust which punishes drivers who get just a little bit off line.

So this is about driving on the edge, controlled and that suits Hamilton to a tee. So this is a reasonable chance for him to bounce back in the title race in, but still, it should boil down to a great battle between the Mercedes and Ferrari who look pretty untouchable over the rest of the field.
