Cardiff City v Fulham Betting Tips – EFL Championship, 30th August 19.45pm

Cardiff City and Fulham, who both dropped down from the Premier League last term, go head-to-head in the EFL Championship on Friday night. Despite this one taking place at the Cardiff City Stadium, the Cottagers are the slight favourites at 31/20. Meanwhile, the Bluebirds are available at 9/5. Cardiff and Fulham will both be expecting to be there or thereabouts in the promotion picture this season, but who will come out on top in South Wales on Friday night?

Cardiff City News and Form – Can the Bluebirds secure a third consecutive home league win?

Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City have started life back in the Championship in patchy form. The Bluebirds kicked off the new season with a disappointing loss in a thriller at Wigan Athletic. Cardiff followed up that 3-2 reverse at the DW Stadium by scoring at the death to secure a 2-1 home win over Luton Town.

The Welsh side then crashed to a heavy 3-0 defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium. The Bluebirds were woeful in that one, but they did strike back with a 2-1 home win over Huddersfield Town a few days later.

It’s been a strange week for the Bluebirds. Last weekend, Warnock’s team battled well to pick up a decent 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park. Unfortunately for them, Cardiff followed that up with a 3-0 loss to Luton at the Cardiff City Stadium in the second round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. To be fair, it was a second-string City team, but the Hatters also made wholesale changes.

Cardiff, who missed out on survival in the Premier League by just two points last season, have yet to find their rhythm so far this term. Still, a win over Fulham on Friday could kick start their campaign.

Fulham News and Form – Will Parker’s boys bounce back after last weekend’s shock defeat?

Fulham have blown hot and cold under Scott Parker so far. The Cottagers have taken nine points from a possible 15, winning three and losing two. After losing 1-0 to Barnsley at Oakwell on the opening weekend of the season, Fulham won three in a row in the Championship.

The Whites romped to a 4-0 win over London rivals Millwall last week, but they were then beaten 2-1 by Nottingham Forest at Craven Cottage at the weekend. Forest’s Lewis Grabban did the damage, netting twice at the Cottage. The Whites were also beaten in the League Cup by Premier League side Southampton in midweek.

In their last away game in the Championship, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ivan Cavaleiro were on the scoresheet in a hard-fought 2-1 win over Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium. However, on their way to relegation from the Premier League last term, Fulham had the worst away record, picking up just win on the road all season.

After their shock defeat at home to Nottingham Forest last weekend, Parker’s men will want to strike back at the first time of asking in the league on Friday. Victory at Cardiff will send out a real signal of intent to their Championship rivals.

Cardiff City v Fulham Predictions

Draw win: This is a game that both teams will be looking to win. The pair seem evenly matched on paper, but their style of football is completely different. Cardiff favour a more direct approach, while Fulham like to get the ball down and play. Their contrasting styles could cancel each other out in the Welsh capital, so I’m backing this to end in a draw at 23/10.

Cardiff and Fulham have played out several memorable matches in recent years, especially at the Cardiff City Stadium. The last two meetings in Wales have produced a staggering 12 goals, with each side sealing 4-2 wins. Meanwhile, both clubs have scored in eight of the last nine meetings. With that in mind, back the draw and both teams to score at 3/1.
