Bluebirds to hold the Tigers at bay

Championship Betting

Cardiff v Hull Betting Preview – Championship 16th December 5.30pm

The Bluebirds are still going along in strong form at the moment and they have produced enough of a challenge to keep in touch with leaders Wolves at the top. They will be looking to sustain that momentum with a home game against Hull on Saturday evening. The Tigers are struggling to make headway to get out of the drop zone because of their defence and this is a tough away game for them.

Cardiff v Hull Betting Tips

Cardiff have continued their very strong form in the Championship as they are not letting leaders Wolves get away from them. The Bluebirds are undefeated in their last five games and have lost just one of their last nine as well. So they are going strong and at home, they are W6 D2 L3 for the season and are on a three match winning streak on home soil as well. Three of their last four home wins in the division have been by a 3-1 scoreline. In the Betfair correct score market, a Cardiff 3-1 option comes in at a price of 12/1 which is a distant price from the 6/1 odds on a Cardiff 1-0 victory. Cardiff have averaged just under the two goals per game on home soil while they have been defensively brilliant with just the five goals conceded. Cardiff to win to nil is going to have some appeal in this one and they have three clean sheets in their last five games. The Bluebirds are currently 21 points better off than they were at this stage of last season’s campaign.

Junior Hoilett is a 2/1 anytime goalscorer option for the game and he is the top scorer for Cardiff this season and five of his six goals for the season have been on home soil. There has been at least two goals scored by Cardiff in all seven of their home Championship wins this season and so they have been tremendously consistent and efficient as well. Over 2.5 goals for the game at Betfair returns a price of 5/6 and that should be a good value option because Hull are carrying a decent scoring threat with them. The last time they met was in the 2015/16 Championship season and the Tigers came out on top from those clashes, winning both games 2-0. Overall the Tigers haven’t lost any of their last five contests against the Bluebirds and have a W3 D2 record against them in that sequence and each of the wins in that sequence were to nil as well. But the Tigers are not a defensive force at the moment.

Hull are stuck down in the bottom half of the Championship table simply because of their struggles in picking up wins, which all goes back to their defensive slackness. The Tigers are only W1 D3 L4 in their last eight league outings, with the lone win that sequence coming last weekend as they managed to edge out Brentford. The Tigers have conceded two or more goals in seven of their last eight league games and they have the second worst defensive record in the division with 39 goals conceded in their 21 games which is an average of 1.8 conceded per game. They have scored only the nine road goals from their ten fixtures away from the KCom and have shipped a total of eighteen. Surprisingly they have opened the scoring in six of their ten away games, but struggle to hold out. They are currently winless in three on their travels, drawing their last two at Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday. They have the goals, but do they have the defence? Both teams to score at Betfair is a 5/6 option for the game.

Cardiff v Hull Predictions

Cardiff should have enough quality to see off the challenge of Hull in this one. The defence of Hull can’t be trusted at all and the Bluebirds are playing with so much confidence that they are likely to efficiently pick off their opponents. Cardiff are value for a home win.
