Horse Racing Betting

Five horses will be heading to the start for the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle at Carlisle on Sunday. This is a big test over 3m 1f for 4 year olds plus. It’s a Class 2 affair with Planet Nine leading the betting with Craig Nichol in the saddle. Will he have things his own way though against some familiar foes?

Can Planet Nine deliver as favourite?

7 year old Planet Nine is one of three horses in the small field which has won at this distance. He actually looks like a pretty good performer on any kind of sufrance and his track record backs that up. Planet Nine opened his season with a second place run at Ayr just last month. He was a 5/1 shot and was beaten by Justatenner, who is the second favorite for this race. It was 2 length margin of defeat that Planet Nine took in that one. But then again, it was his first outing of the season and is likely to improve.

Can Justatenner get the better of Planet Nine again?

Five place finishes in his last six race and half of those six were wins. That’s the calibre of Tristan Davidson’s Justatener. The 8 year old has won six hurdle races from 2m to 3m 1f in his career. Like Planet Nine he’s been pretty versatile as well when it comes to going. As mentioned, he accounted for Planet Nine at Ayr last month, but was out just on Friday and looked a little laboured taking 4th of five runners at Bangor-on-Dee.

The other contenders

It’s a small field and that always piques some interest in the entire field, as it’s hard to ignore everyone. Taxmeifyoucan isn’t a bad traveller but hasn’t won at anything above 2m 4f in his career. He would prefer the ground a little firmer compared to the other two most likely. He was in that race at Ayr last month up against PLanet Nine and Justatenner. Taxmeifyoucan came home fourth at 7/2.

Becky The Thatcher is much in the same boat at Taxmeifyoucan insomuch as the distance looks a little challenging for her. Her last outing was over 2m 4f and she was a distant fifth of nine from a 14/1 mark and she would prefer going to be closer to God. She won a couple of flat races earlier in the year. Then there is Presence Felt, the oldest horse in the running and the lowest rated. He was 20/1 shot in his last outing in early December and finished third from last over 3m.
