Captain Blackpearl

This is going to be an interesting race for the awesomely named Captain Blackpearl. He was fourth at Leicester over a 2m 4f trip. He looked to be struggling towards the end for staying power, however.

That was following a second-place landing on his hurdles debut in November last year at Uttoxeter. The shorter trip may just be about right for him. Connections will be looking for a response to him having been a beaten favourite in that Leicester trip.

Captain Blackpearl goes as the 11/10 favourite* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:13 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

Lucky Flight

Lucky Flight has been an excellent, consistent performer for trainer Lucinda Russell. He hasn’t put a foot wrong over the hurdles, claiming two wins and then a second place.

The second-place happened at Musselburgh last month as he took on the handicap for the first time.

There’s plenty to like about Lucky Flight and really wasn’t disgraced on his trip last month and can be in contention at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:13 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

Henri Le Bon

Kerry Lee’s Henri Le Bon will be splitting the interest of punters at a 7/2 price in this fixture* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:13 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

The overall picture of him hasn’t looked great so far and Henri Le Bon looks as if he needs a few more runs before getting things really together.

He showed a bit more ability and form on his last run, which was a 2m trip at Wetherby in late January. This will be his Handicap debut.

Bluefortytwo

Seven-year-old Bluefortytwo has placed twice in his last eight starts, a hurdle and a NH flat. That suggests that he is really going to have to find something a bit special to contend with some fairly decent company in this one.

He was driven over a 3m trip at Wetherby in early March and there was the suggestion that the longer trips may suit him more.

Folks Like Us

It is a little hard to see how Folks Like Us is going to have a huge impact in this race. He is bottom in the weights, but even with that in mind, he may not close the gap.

It’s been three unconvincing trips over the hurdles from him so far. This is his handicap debut and has cheekpieces for the first time.

Predictions & Tips

Lucky Flight is easily the most consistent and threatening of these. While the market leader Captain Blackpearl is probably going to be happier back at this distance, we can’t overlook Lucky Flight’s form. The dual novice winner was among much better company than this on his handicap debut at Musselburgh.
