Carlisle Sunday 15:35: William Hill offer 5/2 racing odds on My Old Gold – 15th March 2020

Consistent Jepeck can star at Carlisle in veteran's chase

Horse Racing Betting

This is a decent looking handicap chase at class 2 on Sunday afternoon for some racing betting. There are six entered for the race and in terms of competitiveness, this should be a really close, tough battle.

It is My Old Gold who heads the market as the favourite, but there are great claims elsewhere. The Carlisle 15:35 is a 3m trip.

Last year’s winner was Takingrisks who is back in the field for another attempt. He is one of two in the field for winning trainer Nicky Richards.

Carlisle Sunday 15:35

My Old Gold 5/2
Jepeck 11/4
Le Rocher 7/2
Takingrisks 7/2
Seeyouatmidnight 8/1
Bally Longford 16/1

My Old Gold

10-year-old My Old Gold will be going off with stablemate Takingrisks in this one. He was a beaten favourite on his last trip, which was a Doncaster 3m trip. He had struck over course and distance on his previous run.

My Old Gold will be featuring in Sunday’s racing betting at 5/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:43 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020)

But he couldn’t back up that win. But My Old Gold is a proven performer at the 3m distance and has every chance at delivering.

He is a course and distance winner at Carlisle as well, striking from a 4/1 price in April 2018.

Jepeck
11/4

William Hill

Jepeck

Jepeck failed to make a three-timer as he was fourth in a limited handicap chase at Ascot. That moved him onto a 3-5 record this season, so there has been good stuff from him.

His last time out at Carlisle was in March last year when he claimed second place at distance. So there’s every reason to expect him to be in the back of things.

He won a valuable handicap chase at Sandown in January and is at 11/4* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:43 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

Le Rocher

Trainer Nick Williams will see Le Rocher take on Carlisle for the first time. He has been shaping up well having mixed things between chase and hurdles.

He likes the ground soft so conditions need to favour him a little bit. Le Rocher looks like a horse who just plugs away and has been wonderfully consistent and a win doesn’t look too far away.

He is at 7/2 to make it happen on Sunday* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:43 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

Takingrisks

Takingrisks rose to the occasion at the Scottish National last April. He has 1-3 since then, his success happening at the 3m distance at Newcastle. He’s got the distance in him.

He was only sixth on a trip to Haydcok in mid-January 2020 on a switch back to hurdles. But he was handling a big jump in weight after his Newcastle success.

He is here, compared to his Newcastle success and is at 7/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 23:43 GMT on Saturday, 14th March 2020).

Takingrisks has last year’s winning jockey Sean Quinlan back in the saddle.

The Rest Of The Runners

Seeyouatmidnight is an interesting entry into the class 2 race. He has had just one run since the 2018 Grand National. He was 11th at Aintree in that one, incidentally.

His return came at Kelso in February and was fourth after, not surprisingly, tailing off a bit at the end. Seeyouatmidnight gets favourable weight, but the 12 year old needs to find something special.

Bally Longford, trained by Colin Tizzard is another 12-year-old taking on the challenge here. He likes the ground soft as well and has not been able to find any form at all this season, taking 7th at Ludlow in December in his last run.

Predictions & Tips

Last year’s winner Takingrisks is back for another crack at the race. Both he and his stablemate My Old Gold bring great claims to the table.

However, we are going to swing past them and turn focus on Jepeck. He has been in superb form. His novice 3m successes this season puts him in great stead for the win.

He may be able to do enough in this veteran’s chase even though he will be proving himself at this mark.
