Carlisle Thursday 17:10: Bet365 offer 5/2 racing odds on Stay Classy – 2nd February 2020

Mah Mate Bob can stand out in close company

Horse Racing Betting

There are six runners entered for the Eden Handicap Chase at Carlisle on Thursday evening. There looks to be very little to choose between most of them as well.

The bookmakers are certainly expecting things to be tight in the class 4 race. The distance is just shy of 2 miles at 1m 7f 207y.

Carlisle Thursday 17:10 Race Odds*

Mah Mate Bob 3/1
Black Kettle 3/1
Le Frank 9/2
Skipping On 9/2
Ripstik 9/2
Charlie Snow Angel 9/1

Mah Mate Bob

Claims are coming in from all over the place in this contest. Mah Mate Bob has some because of largely positive form this season.

He is a distance winner, having won three chases from 2m to 2m 4f before. He was only sixth of eight on his latest trip which was at Kelso in January.

But you can’t shake the fact that Mah Mate Bob has won three times throughout the season and is up at 3/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 ta 03:12 on Thursday, March 5th 2020)

Le Frank

Le Frank tops out Mah Mate Bob because of being a course a distance winner. He was going along nicely this season until his last couple of trips though.

He was a faller last time out at Newcastle in a 2m trip, which came after a 7th of 10 runners at Sandown in December.

On his last run at Carlisle however, Le Frank took a third-place finish in early November 2019 which was straight after his course and distance the month before.

He lines up at 9/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 ta 03:12 on Thursday, March 5th 2020)

Black Kettle

Black Kettle has been knocking on the door for most of the season. He was second of seven at Hexham on his last trip, which was in mid-December.

Black Kettle has taken a place finish in each of his last three runs. But can he find that extra kick?

His lone career victory came in a 2m Newcastle Chase in 2018 but is being as well supported as most of the other runners in this field at 3/1* (betting odds taken from Bet365 ta 03:12 on Thursday, March 5th 2020)

Ripstik

Ripstick didn’t get going on his latest run which was at Sedgefield in early February. He came home fifth of eight on that trip.

He did win at Chase back on Boxing Day last year at Sedgefield over the 2m distance, so that does lend him some claims here.

It’s probably too early to totally write him off after his last run as he does look like a good traveller.

Charlie Snow Angel

A rank outsider for the race is Charlie Snow Angel who was well beaten on his last trip. He was fourth of eight in a Kelso Chase.

He has claimed a couple of Newcastle wins this season but the likelihood this is that this is going to be too quick over too short of a distance for him.

Skipping On

Interestingly Skipping On’s rating has been in a steady decline this season, but the 11-year-old still has not managed to take advantage of that.

He was third at Kelso over a 2m 1f trip in his last race from a field of six but was at the same rating as he will be for this.

Predictions & Tips

Which way to turn in this one with such close odds going on? The two we are going to zone in on are Mah Mate Bob and Le Frank.

The latter was leading at Newcastle in January before he took his tumble and he does have course and distance claims.

Mah Mate Bob has at least found his way to land wins this season and because of that, and his misfire at Kelso keeping him at the same rating, he should get very close.
