Craggaknock work an e/w look at Catterick?

Horse Racing Betting

This is a Novices’ Hunters’ Chase that is happening at Catterick on Wednesday evening. There is an overwhelming favourite heading to the start of it as well. Wishing And Hoping has been dominating the betting. He is likely to be a strong odds-on option at the start. Wishing And Hoping is one of six entrants for the race, which is at class 5 over 3m 1f.

Wishing And Hoping

Despite being a beaten favourite on his last trip, Wishing And Hoping is the 4/11 odds-on favourite for this one* (betting odds taken from Coral at 9:52 GMT on Tuesday, March 2020). There has been strong form from the 10-year-old all season. He was looking to back up a chase win at Taunton that he had taken in early January.

That Haydock second place was in a shorter 2m 6f chase. He was beaten by 4l by Alcalca. Wishing And Hoping has won a couple of hurdles, a NH flat and a chase from 2m to 3m 2f so he has the distance in him.

He has taken a little penalty for winning at Taunton but is head and shoulders above the field in terms of rating. It would be quite the upset if he didn’t collect the victory.

Waterloo Warrior

Waterloo Warrior has to be a decent option to get up there in the mix. He has not managed to pick up a win yet under rules, however. But he claimed a very solid second place at Leicester on his last trip. That was a mid-February run.

He has won four-point to point races at the 2m distance as well. While Waterloo Warrior has to be well worth a look to at least pick up the place finish, seeing him go on and beat the highly-rated favourite is unlikely.

Still, at the end of the day, he does look to be the one most capable of landing an upset at 4/1 odds* (betting odds taken from Coral at 9:52 GMT on Tuesday, March 2020).

Absainte and Light Flicker

Much like Waterloo Warrior, Absainte has had plenty of winning experience at the 3m distance in point to point action. The most recent outing that he had under Rules was in May last year. He produced a 3rd place finish at class 5 at Cartmel.

Light Flicker won a point to point over a 3m in November 2018. That was his most recent outing. So the eight-year-old comes back after a long absence and just has major question marks about his presence and what he could potentially do.

Craggaknock

Craggaknock made his Chase debut last month at Wetherby in a 3m trip. He was third of five runners there, Minella Rocco taking the race win. Craggaknock was 44l back of the winner at 25/1 odds.

That was a major step up in distance to anything else he has done under Rules in his career. For this one, Craggaknock is a big 20/1 outsider* (betting odds taken from Coral at 9:52 GMT on Tuesday, March 2020).

He wasn’t disgraced actually in that Wetherby trip as he looked keen and may just pique some each-way interest.

Predictions & Tips

Wishing And Hoping is going to be a banker in this one for many a punter. He has to be. He is light years ahead of the rest of the field in ratings. The weight is not likely to stop him either.

There hasn’t been much around from Light Flicker and Waterloo Warrior, but the recent chase effort that Craggaknock put in on his debut last month was solid. He may be worth some considerations at each way for a shot at value.
