It is the final weekend of regular Championship football betting on the weekend. For this season at least. There are still some major issues to be settled on the day as well.

Not the title though, as Norwich have coasted their way to that.

With most of the promotion issues all done and dusted, the large focus is on things at the foot of the table in Championship football betting on the weekend.

Three teams will be fighting it out on the day for the one remaining survival spot in the second tier that is open.

Where did the Championship title go?

Norwich are eight points clear at the top of the table heading into the final round of action. So they  can have a relaxing day.

The Canaries are away at Barnsley on the weekend and they are 9/5 to get the victory* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

The Championship Play Off Picture

There is not a lot going on for the final day of action in terms of the play off race. The four teams who are going to the play offs have been settled.

Brentford will finish third and will be joined in some order by Swansea, Bournemouth and Barnsley. Let’s have a look at what each of them need.

The basic goal of Saturday for the teams involved is to try and avoid finishing in 6th place, which would mean avoiding the red-hot Brentford in the semi-finals.

But in such a hectic season, will the teams involved settle for where they are at? Will they be happy just to be in the play offs and rest players ahead of that?

Swansea – 4th, 80 pts

Swansea will not drop down to sixth place, even if results don’t go their way.

If they lose on Saturday and Bournemouth win, Swansea will fall to fifth with the Cherries jumping above them.

Swansea can’t fall lower than that because of a goal-difference advantage over Barnsley, which isn’t going to be overturned.

The Swans round off their campaign as 14/5 underdogs away at second-place finishers Watford* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

Bournemouth – 5th, 77 pts

The Cherries have a vastly superior goal difference to that of Swansea.

So if Bournemouth win on Saturday and Swansea lose, it will be a 4th place finish for the south coast club.

Bournemouth have lost their last two league games.

The Cherries close their regular season campaign as 3/4 underdogs at home against Stoke in Championship football betting* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

If their result in that is bettered by Barnsley’s effort against Champions Norwich, then Bournemouth would slip to that dreaded 6th spot.

Barnsley – 6th, 77 pts

Barnsley have nothing to lose and everything to gain in this one. The Tykes are sixth, level on points with Bournemouth but heavily worse off in goal difference.

So they have to try and out-perform Bournemouth on the day in terms of result.

That would see them get out of that final play off berth and face Swansea instead of Brentford in the semi finals.

In Championship betting odds, however, Barnsley are 17/10 underdogs for their home game against Norwich* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

The Championship survival race

The relegation picture on Saturday in Championship football betting is going to be a lot more dramatic and exciting.

Despite finding better form at the end of the season, Wycombe are relegated because of goal difference. There’s no way they can escape.

That leaves a situation where Derby, Rotherham and Sheffield Wednesday are fighting for the one spot that will keep them in the second tier.

It’s going to be a nail-biting afternoon watching this play out in Championship relegation odds.

Wycombe 24th, 40 pts

A burst of form, winning three of their last six saw Wycombe put up a lot of fight at the end of the season.

But the most that they can end the season with is 33 points, which is where fourth-from-bottom Derby start the weekend.

Wycombe are worse off in goal difference all other three teams involved in this relegation mess.

The Chairboys are 10/3 to win their final game of the season which is at Middlesbrough* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

Sheffield Wednesday 23rd, 40 pts

The Owls do have a chance of survival. But it is only a very, very narrow window of opportunity.

Firstly, they have to win on Saturday.

Excitingly they are facing Derby, the team they are trying to catch.

A win for Sheffield Wednesday in Championship betting is at 11/5* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

But that’s not all. To get safe, the Owls would also need Rotherham to fail to win their final fixture.

Sheffield Wednesday are the only team of the three fighting to stay up on the weekend, who have won a match in the last six rounds of action.

Rotherham 22nd, 41 pts

Rotherham’s chance of staying up is a little better than Sheffield Wednesday’s. The Millers have to win on the weekend as well to survive.

They would also need Derby not to beat Sheffield Wednesday.

If Derby draw, Rotherham would edge the Rams to survival on goal difference.

Rotherham are 19/10 underdogs for Saturday’s match as they make the trip to Cardiff* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

The Millers have drawn their last two league games and are winless in seven (D2 L5).

Current form (oldest to latest): LLLLDD

Derby 21st, 43 pts

The Rams hold a little advantage here in the bid to avoid the drop. A win over Sheffield Wednesday guarantees survival for them.

A draw and Derby would need Rotherham not to beat Cardiff. A loss and they would be beaten to survival by either Sheffield Wednesday or Rotherham.

Derby are 13/10 to win that high-pressure home game against Sheffield Wednesday* (odds recorded at 17:42 GMT on May 5th, 2021 at Bet365).

While they have the home advantage the worrying thing for Derby is the current six-match losing streak they are on.
