The weekend’s action kicks off with Sheff Utd v West Brom, but we turn our focus to the 3.00 pm kickoffs on Saturday, December 13th 2018 for our Championship tips and predictions.

Aston Villa v Stoke

Dean Smith deserves tremendous credit for the way that he has turned Villa’s season around. They are now on a six-match unbeaten streak after playing out a 2-2 draw at West Brom last weekend in a big Midlands derby. They have gone unbeaten in five now at Villa Park in the league and this will be their first home game since that crazy 5-5 draw with Notts Forest at the end of November. Stoke have started to climb as well with a bigger eight-match undefeated streak of Championship form going on. They are unbeaten in their last seven away from home though but have drawn three of their last five on their travels.

Aston Villa to win gets our nod at 19/20* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2108 at 6:11 pm) as it is hard to see Stoke really matching up to the home side in terms of goal scoring output.

Blackburn v Birmingham

It continues to be a hard thing to get a genuine read on Blackburn this season as they have lost any kind of notion of consistency. They are W2 D2 L2 in their last six league games and have won only two of their last eight in the Championship. So there are clear problems there and their defence has been having a rough time with ten goals shipped in their last four. Birmingham are level on points with them so this should be an even contest. The Blues lost at home against Bristol City last weekend, snapping a run of back to back wins. They haven’t exactly been the most dynamic of sides on their travels, having lost two of their last three away from St Andrews

Birmingham’s defence seems to be prone to big blowouts. Blackburn through are just unreliable for backers and the draw at 9/4 in the match outright fits for us* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2108 at 6:11 pm)

Bet Draw 9/4* at Bet365

Bolton v Leeds

The woes of the Trotters continued last weekend in a 3-2 loss at league leaders Norwich. At least they showed a bit of fighting spirit in that one. But still, it means that they have earned only two points from their last eight league games now and they are second from bottom heading into the weekend. So this looks to be a tough game for them. They have lost four of their five away games (W1) against sides currently sat in the top ten. Leeds start in second place in the table with some hot momentum going. They are on a four-match winning streak with just the one goal conceded in that sequence.

Given that Bolton have been goal shy for the most part this season and Leeds have tightened up defensively, a Leeds to win to nil option has to warrant a good look in this one at 13/8 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2108 at 6:11 pm)

Bet Leeds 13/8* at Bet365

Ipswich v Wigan

The Tractor Boys look to be rapidly heading down to League One for next season. They are on a four-match losing streak with just two points collected from their last eight games. Ipswich remain stuck on just the one win all season long and have lost 12 of their 21 league outings this season. There has been no let up on home soil for them with back to back defeat at Portman Road. Ipswich have conceded at least two goals in seven of their last eight games. Can Wigan take advantage? Their form hasn’t been great with them going W1 D2 L5 in their last eight league games. They are just W1 D1 L8 on their travels so that makes this a hard game to call even with the poor output of Ipswich. The Latics have no clean sheet in eight road games.

What a tough game to call. The bold option is to go with a win for Wigan as they take on the second-worst defence in the league. That’s where we are going to stick at 11/8 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2108 at 6:11 pm)

Bet Wigan 11/8* at Bet365

Rotherham v Reading

Rotherham’s bizarre season continued last weekend with yet another draw. They have not gone W1 D9 L2 in their last dozen league games. That is an astounding amount of drawn fixtures. They have drawn five of their last six home games (W1) so they at least have a huge positive of good unbeaten home form. They are actually undefeated in eight home games at the moment. They are taking on one of the three sides beneath them in the table in Reading. The Royals have won just once away from home this season but are undefeated in three away games against sides currently 15th or lower. The Royals have lost four of their last five on their travels, not having found a goal in any of their last three road games.

It looks like a good time to break out some support for a home win for the Millers. This is as good as a chance of any at three points. A home win for Rotherham is at 21/10 odds* (betting odds taken from bet365 on December 13th, 2108 at 6:11 pm)
