Championship promotion odds for the 2020/21 season are hugely interesting. The second tier in England is usually a wide-open gruelling campaign which is hard to read pre-season from a betting perspective.

Naturally, the teams taking the drop from the Premier League are generally in focus when it comes to Championship promotion odds for a new season.

That’s true for the forthcoming season with Watford the current joint-favourites to collect the prize of promotion.

The market is just wide open currently with fifteen teams at 8/1 or shorter to earn promotion.

Here we take a look at the Championship promotion odds.

The new season of the Championship starts on September 12th, 2020.

Sheffield Wednesday will start with a 12 point deduction for a breach of the League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules

The pre-season Championship Winner Odds front-runners

After their relegation from the Premier League, WATFORD are the joint 9/4 favourites to win the Championship next season* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:30 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

The Hornets sacked boss Nigel Pearson before the end of the season and they look as if they are bringing in Serbian Vladimir Ivic as their new boss.

BRENTFORD are right there at 9/4 odds as well* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:30 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

The Bees only just missed out on automatic promotion in the 2019/20 season as they lost their final two games of the campaign.

The Bees then missed out on their second chance, losing in the Play-Off Final to Fulham. But only league winner Leeds won more games than Brentford did in last season’s competition.

So can they put together another run? There is a chance that they will be losing some key players like striker Ollie Watkins ahead of the next campaign.

Will Norwich and Bournemouth bounce straight back?

The other two sides who took the drop from the Premier League were Norwich and Bournemouth. They are both towards the head of the market in 2020/21 Championship winner odds.

Norwich didn’t gamble during the January transfer window to try and salvage their top-flight status by spending money.

They seemed to be guided by financial conservatism, so they held their squad together and kept faith with excellent manager Daniel Farke.

The Canaries are 11/4 for promotion straight back up* (betting odds taken from 00:58 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020)

BOURNEMOUTH will go into their Championship season without Eddie Howe. He parted easy with the club by mutual consent a couple of weeks ago.

Jason Tindall, former assistant manager to Howe, has been promoted to the hot seat for the new season.

The Cherries have already lost Nathan Ake to Man City and reports are that David Brooks and Callum Wilson along with keeper Aaron Ramsdale are targets for top-flight teams. The Cherries are 7/2 currently to make an immediate return* (betting odds taken from 00:58 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

Other potential players in the Championship promotion race

CARDIFF are a current 11/2 quote to earn promotion* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:30 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020). The Bluebirds finished fifth in last season’s campaign, falling in the playoffs.

NOTTINGHAM FOREST’s poor end to the season after it was restarted cost them a shot at promotion.

With no win in their last six games, they missed out on the playoffs on goal difference to Swansea on the final day of the season.

SWANSEA who ended last season sandwiched between Cardiff and Nottingham Forest in sixth place, are a current 6/1 quote, around the same mark as STOKE and DERBY* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:30 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).

MIDDLESBROUGH finished in 17th place last season, an uninspiring season under Jonathan Woodgate.

But they have Neil Warnock at the helm now and under his experience are currently priced at 13/2* (betting odds taken from Bet365 at 00:30 GMT on Friday, 14th August 2020).
