Charlton Athletic News and Form – Can the Addicks pick up another Championship scalp?

Charlton Athletic were promoted from EFL League One last term, beating Sunderland in the play-off final in May. The Addicks have made an excellent start to life back in the second tier, accumulating 17 points from nine fixtures. Charlton are sixth at the minute, two points off the top.

The Addicks started with four wins and two draws from their opening six in the Championship. However, their progress was halted when they crashed to successive losses to Birmingham City and Wigan Athletic.

 

 

Lee Bowyer’s boys were the 6/1 underdogs against Leeds United at The Valley last weekend. However, the Red Robins were superb on their own patch, restricting Marcelo Bielsa’s men to few clear-cut chances. Charlton took their chance at the other end, with Macauley Bonne’s first-half strike proving to the difference.

The London outfit have certainly mixed it with the big boys so far this season. Victory over Swansea on Wednesday will force their Championship rivals to start taking notice. Can they secure another priceless three points in midweek?

Swansea City have been the surprise package in the Championship so far this season, as the Welsh club sit second on 18 points, just a point behind leaders West Bromwich Albion. The Swans have won five, drawn three and lost one.

Graham Potter guided Swansea to a tenth-place finish in his one and only season in South Wales before departing for Premier League Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer. The Swans board moved quickly to bring in Welshman Steve Cooper as his replacement.

Cooper hit the ground running at the Liberty Stadium, with the Swans winning seven and drawing one of their opening eight matches in all competitions. Swansea moved clear at the top after beating Leeds 1-0 at Elland Road before the first international break of the season.

However, City have had a little slump in form since then, failing to win any of their past four league and cup fixtures. The Swans were beaten by Nottingham Forest in the league before drawing with Bristol City and Reading. Sandwiched in between those draws was a 2-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road in the Carabao Cup.

After picking up just two points from the last nine on offer, Swansea will want to return to winning ways as soon as possible. Can the Swans pick up an invaluable three points at The Valley on Wednesday?
