Tone The Barone to score at Chelmsford City?

The clear front runner for this contest is TONE THE BARONE at 5/4* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 00:36 GMT on Monday, June 8th 2020). He is probably going to take some stopping in it as well. He is going up another 5lb since his last effort and considering that he has taken a C&D double, the big claims are with him.

Those course and distance successes were just in February and even the extra weight probably isn’t going to slow him up. It was the switch to the polytrack which really saw him kick on and he bags to spare in his last contest. So Tone The Barone is set up for the hat trick, it will surprise many if he didn’t get it.

Can Abel Handy make up enough ground?

There has been a change of stable for ABEL HANDY as he is now with David O’Meara. On his last run he took a fourth place finish at Wolverhampton and he is a 4/1 option for this contest* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 00:36 GMT on Monday, June 8th 2020)..

He is coming in at under his last winning mark and he is also coming down in grade which gives him claims. He was knocking around between Class 2 and 3 for most of last season. The form doesn’t really read great but he has won two of his five Class 4 contests.

Red Stripes and interesting entry

USA eight year old RED STRIPES is very interesting. He is vastly experienced and the Southwell stalwart is making a big switch up in venue here. He has won two of his last three races, both of which were at Class 5.

But he did come up to this level on his last run at Southwell in a Class 4 handicap in mid-March this year. Red Stripes took 2nd of 7 in that one. He is a course and distance winner.

Spirited Guest is one to watch

While ultimately no-one looks like touching Tone The Barone in this contest, SPIRITED GUEST may be able to put together a solid performance. His two career wins both appeared on polytrack and one of those was at Chelmsford City in November last year, but at Class 5.

He has been up against stiffer company since, and a run on June 3rd may have just sharpened him up well as an 11/2 entry* (betting odds taken from Betfred at 00:36 GMT on Monday, June 8th 2020).

The Rest of the Runners

Not too much happening in the rest of the runners. DAPPER MAN has a lot to find from a mark of 82 without question. He is a course and distance winner however and has the blinkers on. Easily the best of the outsiders.

BOOM THE GROOM hasn’t scored in any of his last 13 runs. Seems to be coming up fairly short way too often to have much appeal for punters.

The claims meanwhile for ZAC BROWN will be from him being a three-time C&D winner. Ran poorly last time out at Lingfield however.

Rounding off the pack is BELLEVARDE who collected a good win in his penultimate race of last season. Then he came up short in his season closer as a beaten favourite.

Predictions & Tips

We just can’t find enough of a reason to look past the favourite TONE THE BARONE at all in this contest. He should be too good for what is going to be around him on Monday.

He’s on a hattrick at C&D and that just about says it all. He was dominant with plenty to spare on his last trip and should be straight back in among it.

Of the rest of the pack who is going to be trying to close him down, ABEL HANDY looks the sharpest of the lot to get himself into the places with outside claims from DAPPER MAN.
